Mourning The Mourning Dove

Its song is soft and plaintive, weaving a wistful aura around those who hear it. The pleasure of the mourning dove's call is the reason states like Wisconsin and Michigan long ago designated the songbird an official symbol of peace.

C. L. Anderson Survival in the wild sometimes necessitates the act of hunting. Although I don't appreciate deer hunting, the meat does feed a large family. This said shooting an animal hardly larger than the bullet for nothing more than sport of target practice is senceless killing. The thought of it disgusts me. Please ban dove hunting. It's ruthless waste of an innocent animal. For those of you that throw the excuse of overpopulation out....Let me know when the hunt of overpopulated humans in NYC is going to be. 5/30/2005
Robyn Alleman Please read the email below from Michigan State Representative sent to my mother, a concerned citizen in regards to the Mourning Dove Bill:

Donna Lucas We need to get a drive together depicting a Mourning Dove with a tear of blood coming from it's eye with a caption " June 17th - the day Granholm made the Doves cry ! "

Did she sign the bill with a RED pen ? I'm so disappointed and betrayed !!!

Donna Lucas What are the chances of stopping the killing of mourning doves now that the bill in Michigan has passed ? They are only wanting to kill these docile birds as a way of prepareing young kids for larger game . The adverage weight of a dove is 3.5 oz. to 5 oz. . It's like shooting fish in a barrel . It's bad enough to find deer in the woods with only their hind quarters missing due to that was the only part that was wanted , now they tell me that these young kids are going to bother plucking feathers and cooking these 3.5 oz. birds ? I don't think so ! Let's all admit , June 17 , 2004 was the day that Gov. Granholm made doves cry !!! What is the SPORT in killing trusting birds ? They call it management . I didn't know that anything was WRONG with the doves . They say they need to KILL them in order to make sure they will always be here . That is what I just read on Michigan Sportsman's website . What a CROCK !!!!! 6/23/2004
