samara I work at an animal shelter. It is heartbreaking enough to see the THOUSANSDS of animals we get for an array of reasons: owner passed away, no family members want pet. Stray. Confiscated. Abandoned. Or for whatever selfish, pathetic reason owner no longer wants dog/cat. We get EVERY SINGLE BREED, yet these ignorant, selfish disgraceful human beings who look for certain breeds will still go to f------- pet stores and breeders. This encourages breeding, and some animals which come from deplorable conditions, puppy mills, EXTREME animal neglect and suffering all to make money. We even have purebreds turned in because they're "too old to breed" . I can't tell you how many people I have run into that have a "purebred" bought from a pet store or breeder , and their pets have serious medical isssues. Probably because Fido's mom and dad were brother and sister. Probably because Fido, his mom, and litter mates came from a puppy mill, where they lived in filthy inhumane, horrific conditions.
And here's another piece of information for these people who go to breeders and pet stores: Has it EVER occurred to you to question, "Gee, I wonder what happens if they don't get sold." Do I really need to answer that? Figure it out for yourself. And you support this?! You're pathetic. Stop the backyard breeding. Stop the pet stores. Stop BUYING, start ADOPTING. If anything, the hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars you spend on a certain breed (just for the novelty and status) can go towards RESCUING ANIMALS.

And for all you selfish, ignorant breeders out there: If you actually breed because you"love" a certain breed, do you know how many of your animals wind up in the wrong hands, out on the street to suffer(and make more babies because they are not neutered/spayed) , or in a shelter where they may be euthanized. C'mon. Don't be stupid.
You can't deny what I WITNESS AND KNOW.
