Nasa Returns to Apollo in Quest for Perfect Craft

America is planning to replace its troubled, ageing fleet of space shuttles with a powerful new craft modelled on the Apollo vehicles that took US astronauts to the Moon 30 years ago. The new Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) will be designed to ferry crew and cargo to and from the...

Caleb White I beleive the C.E.V. system seems to be a regression from the current space system. But it is too early to critisize the appearantly valid idea. I also beleive that spaceflight should be pioneered by large governments as well as small corperations. The sky is plentyful in size. 7/2/2005
Graig Burns Manned exploration of Space should be left to Private Industry. Government should finance robotic craft, such as Hubble and Spirit--- or Mars Express. The Space Plane is a boondoggle unless it supports an Industry that can generate revenues as return. 2/9/2005
Sean i think its about time that the NASA and the Nation were given a new purpose and direction in space exploration. Hail Apollo !!!. If we had not gotton rid of Apollo/ Saturn we would still have access to Space while the STS was grounded; as well as a heavy lift booster. 8/13/2004
Sean should'nt have canned Apollo in the first place. If we still had the CSM and Saturn 1B operatiomal as a back up, we would'nt have to hitch a ride with the Russians. 5/21/2004
Travis Bauer It may be a very bad move financially, but the space program needs a lot more than money, it needs a direction. if we don't go soon the space program will be dead by lack of popular support. 1/20/2004
Jeremy Batterso Would it not be better to have a 2nd-generation shuttle, capable of reaching escape velocity and thus going into lunar orbit, with a lander as part of the payload? The US Airforce had a plan for a shuttle that could operate anywhere in the Earth-Moon system. It seems that a return to the ballistic method of travel has some drawbacks. Most importantly, you must do as Lyndon LaRouche said, you must have an INFRASTRUCTURE of space travel, a REDUNDANCY which gives you the capacity to deal with all manners of problems, including unexpected ones, which will come up. 1/16/2004
