i don't belive in huting for sport, i do belive in hunting for food. but if we only hunted for food we wouldn't have so many endangered species. |

these are animals that are dangerous and should be hunted. Hunting is a mangement tool and a great sport. What about the environmental impact of thousands of hikers, bikers, etc. that enter the park every year? |

I wrote to Gov. Codey and told him looking at the pictures of the dead bears in the snow with their blood encircled around them, it reminded me of my black lab lying there. |

It is a sick thing to do to kill a bear, why not just shoot your dog... |

Star-Ledger, 12/10/2003 " and in sad footnote, morning rush hour commuters on Route 23 in West Milford got a front-row view of the hunt, when a mortally wounded cub staggered out of the woods, lay down with his head resting on the road, and died." "It just broke my heart, sitting there in traffic watching him died." " he was just a little guy and looked so lonely, lying there with snow on his paws". "people on the road were crying!" |

I think if you as you call yourself hunters should go to the woods without guns and then hunt for for a bear! We would see then ,who would be hunted. Why men are so stupid,do you need to kill a bear to prove that you are a man . And to the issue of bears coming close to peopols houses, when you by a house in the woods , you should know that you have to shere living space with wild life. You are not hunters in my opinion , you are cowards. |

The people who live in the area of the hunt are against the hunt by almost 6 to 4. Most of the whiners upset about there being bears are recent move-ins from Bergen County NJ, where the only wildlife they were used to seeing was a raccoon in their garbage or a sports figure hopped up on some substance. The figures used for a bear hunt were wrong, plain and simple, The population (as well as anyone can determine) is closer to 1300 then the 3000+ that was thrown around, While it is impossible to count a moving population, certain facts can be used; such as number of females and yearlings killed in last years hunt. This year reported sightings of bear are down 40%. Reported problems are down 40%. There is simply no need for a bear hunt. Now there is a way to reduce the encounters to zero, simply kill all of the bears. The natives of the region would rather fight to protect the black bear than give into the whinings of those newbies who move to the forests and are shocked to find wild animals. While I support and participate in deer hunting, this (*bear) hunt is simply not needed. |

I, along with a majority of New Jersey residents living in the area currently being threatened by bear, fully support the hunt. Black Bear, as creatures that are territorial and prone to wandering, are not designed to co-exist with humans. The suburban sprawl that took place in New Jersey cannot be reversed. It is both arrogant and ignorant for the "animal rights" wackos to tell a person what he should do in his own back yard, when most of the time they don't even live in that community. I have even seen beat up old vans with new york plates, all covered with bumper stickers, harrassing the hard working residents of Warren county right in their own neighborhoods.
I have an 84 year old father who lives alone in the house he built (right here in Warren County) 52 years ago. He lives here by choice, because he cannot leave the house he has loved for so long. After a run in with a black bear, which (had it not been for a quick thinking neighbor with a shotgun), would have killed him, my father is terrified to sit on his back porch. This was one of his favorite things to do. The bear population in New Jersey is exploding. Every year it gets worse. Forget your statistics and far off make believe data, this is first hand truth from the front lines. It is only a matter of time before, (God forbid!) an elderly person or a child is severely mauled or killed.
If the state of New Jersey does not allow the bear hunt, or if outsiders succeed in having unelected judges impose their ideologicaly repugnant "laws" upon the rural and suburban citizens of New Jersey, I am sure that said citizens will fight for their safety. The number of Black Bear poachings will rise. Sussex, Morris, Passaic and Warren Counties all contain mountain ravines and remote wooded spots, unknown to all but those who frequent them...and certainly unknown to supreme court judges and the "animal rights" crowd. Here the bear population can be controlled by the true lawmakers, THE PEOPLE.
