Annual Dolphin Slaughter Underway In Japan

The killings began October 6 in Taiji when 60 dolphins were taken on the beach. The deaths have continued and on October 23, members of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and dolphin rehabilitator Ric O'Barry documented the capture of 30 melon-head whales, 13 of which were driven to shore and killed.

Jessica Dolphins are my favorite sea creature, they never did anything to you! So why be cruel? 11/4/2007
June You guys should not kill dolphins because they are a wonderful creature you should be ashamed of yourself! They dont hurt you so why hurt them! 11/4/2007
May This is the worst thing I have ever heard, dolphins are not meant to be eaten they are meant to look at and be a beautiful living creature of the sea. 11/4/2007
Orca Couldn't have said it better myself. Why do Japan and other countries think that they own the sea and all of the creatures in it? Dolphins are intelligent, feeling animals like we are. They are the second smartest animals on the planet next to humans and primates. But it's not just about their intelligence, or their brain to body ratio; they're no different from us than we are of them, except for physical characteristics. Both dolphins and whales can think, solve problems, feel pain and sorrow, and is one of the most socially bonded creatures on Earth. Slaughtering them would be like taking a person and slitting his throat with a steak knife, chopping is arms and legs off, and leavening him they’re to suffer an agonizing death.
Now, if Japan IS a so- called member of the International Whaling Convention, then why do they continue to slaughter dolphins and whales and sell them commercially? The IWC gave Japan a permit to kill a "small" amount of whales and dolphins" for "scientific research." But no, Japan had to take advantage of the permit by killing these animals, saying it’s for "scientific research." That's the biggest load of BS I've ever heard of. We just need to bomb the crap out of Japan and other countries that slaughter marine mammals, like NORWAY and ICELAND. These conservationists need to act fast because Japan and other whale/ dolphin killing countries are going to soon increase their quota. Sooner or later, there will be several species endangered or extinct from as a result of these mass and horrible slaughters.

Kelli Don’t be so cruel. Let these dolphins live. Let them be free! 3/9/2005
chantelle it makes me so sad to think that one day i might not be able to be a marine biologist just because of this cruel and disgusting tradition. it should become illegal. and for those who still do it there should be a very harsh punishment. 1/15/2005
Kim It makes me sick, I don't care if the Japanese (those that fall under this category anyway) believe it’s a right of theirs to slaughter dolphins because its 'traditional and part of the culture'. Many other nations have changed traditional behaviours towards animals since greater awareness of cruelty and species preservation.
