New NY Law Protects Vets Who Report Animal Abuse

On October 6, New York Governor George Pataki signed into law a bill that will provide immunity from liability to veterinarians who disclose companion animal records without the owner’s consent to law enforcement and animal control agencies.

Caro This is an important and much needed step forward. Veterinarians are afraid to upset clients and become victims themselves - i.e. of verbal or physical abuse, damage to their surgery/property, loss of income etc.
Veterinarians in the UK should be protected in the same way as soon as possible.

bigfanx This law should be adopted by every state across America - mandatory reporting of suspected abuse against an animal. The facts are in folks - animals are most likely to be the first victims of abuse in a household. If the abuser is allowed to continue unchecked, most likely more animals are harmed. Then the abuser moves to humans - children, adults, and the elderly.

Stop abuse now! The animals need a victory!
