Rugby in South Africa is one of the last bastions of the white man, and still rife with racism. But things are changing. Rory Carroll reports on a team from the township of Soweto that is rewriting the form book.

Lucas Don't you think it's racist for the South African politicians to get involved in the nations sport and enforce a quota. So the black man isn't part the team because he's the nations best. He's there because the govenrment has reserved a spot for him. Sport and politcs should not mix. Since when does race come into sport. It should be based only on the players skill and not the colour of his skin . Imagine that happening in the United States. Lets say there wasn't enough native Americans in the major football or basketball teams....would the government ask the leagues to make sure that each team had at least 20% natives. Doubt that very much. I don't care if the whole Springbok team was mostly black if they were the best players the country had to offer. But no...the politics say that black players must be on the team or the team will not be allowed to play international rugby...c'mon guys.....this is getting ridiculous. There shouldn't be colour in team...only skill. Now the whole SA soccer team is black. Will they make a quota to play at least five white players...not this century. This is reverse racism. 10/8/2007
