Golf: No place for cheating in golf

Tiger Woods thinks all his competitors should have their clubs tested before every round. Is there something fishy on the PGA Tour right now? Is golf on a collision course with a Sammy Sosa-like cheating scandal? And what is being done to prevent it?

J.P. Parks Thankfully the idiocy put forth in this article, namely that golf should take a lesson from baseball and begin testing this and testing that, will not be followed by the PGA. Golf has always remained a sport unlike any other, and thank God it will remain that way. 6/26/2009

"For it's entire existence, the tour has relied on the players to police themselves. This cannot last, and the tour should take a lesson from America's pastime and implement preventive measures to keep cheating out of golf."

I totally disagree with this statement. Although golf is a business and prize money is extremely high. It is not a reason to alter the spirit of a game many centuries old. If what you're suggesting would happen, then golf would cease to be a "gentleman's game" and would breed the kind of players in all other sports who will cheat until a referee calls foul like all other sports.

Basketball players purposely fouling to prevent an opponent from scoring is really cheating.
Football players trying to hide a shirt grab is cheating.
Baseball… (enough said)
Hockey… if you can’t beat’em, knock their teeth down their throats and try again. Eventually you’ll gain an edge if your opponent’s eye is swollen enough.

All those games breed great exciting fights for survival and victory, but they are full of cheaters who will cheat in a heart beat as long as it's acceptable by the masses.

Golf is the greatest game in the world because it’s a gentleman’s game.
