Tanya I was denied service in a Macys in the oxford Valley Pa. store ,I had went there to purchase a fragrance set and my husband and I were among only three customers who was there, one being white was already being waited on when we got there ,there was two sales associates there one waiting on the white customer the other was just standing there she saw us and continued to stand there acting as if we weren't there, then she walked over to the men's counter and looked at us again and then acted like she was doing something needless to say she was white we are black ,so I waited a few more minutes then I went over to her counter and said to her that I was going to purchase a set from them but since she didn't even acknowledge our presence never mind and I left out the store ,then I said to my husband no I'm not going to let her get away with this,so I went back in the store and ask for a manager,I was told the store manager was not there,so they got another manager who was black and I was asked what was the problem I told her what happened and immediately excuses were made that oh I have never known her to be that way we have never had a problem with her and to be exact we just won the customer service award is what she said, then she went on to say I can give you some Macys dollars for your troubles,I said no I don't want anything from your store now it's the principal I was denied service due to what seems to be the color of my skin,so she said well I can have our store manager to call you when she return's, three weeks or more went buy and I heard nothing I then e-mailed the Macys headquarters, they e-mailed a apology back and had someone call me saying Macys is a very fair company they don't tolerate racism and that she was black and that Macys treated her well and that the Manager will be calling me soon. So the Manager for Oxford valley store finally calls ask us to meet with her ,we did which turned out to be a complete waste of time and gas ,she said to us that the sales associate said she did not see us and that what we said happened did not happen and that my preception of what happened did not happened, I was insulted and was basically being called a liar and was the one trying to get the truth threw,I said to her you have cameras in your store pull the footage and see for your self what happened that wasa totally ignored. She said I don't know what I can do to make this better and then tried to bribe me with a $150.00 gift card. I told her I wanted a apology from the sales associate she continued to repeat the associate's response that she didn't see us .I weigh 297 lbs,my husband weighs 250lbs how could she not see us and not only that but she looked right at us more than three times as if to say I see you but I'm not going to wait on you. They are getting away with racism, covering up racism and making us as the consumer's a liar this is not right .What else can be done about this ! 1/21/2009
Nicole in DC Wow this is ironic me and my friend where detained for 2 hours until the police arrived at the Macy's in Prince Georges Plaza Hyattsville, MD. Becuase they claimed they saw one of use steal a pair of sun shades. Once the police came the searched all our belongs and allowed me to go home. After keeping threating my friend they released her as well. I am not surprised that they have been caught. Its sad just make sure you show up at Macy's Feb 20-27th to pick up your free hand out. The lawsuit is over and Macy's is not cutting checks but they are giving out free items (see cosmetic dept) 1/15/2009
Jennifer Lee I agree I need a lawyer!! Today, on March 16, 2008 my sisters, their boyfriends and I went to the mall. We looked around for a bit and before we were going to leave since the mall closes at 6 on sundays we stopped by Victoria's Secret. Two young caucasians girls came in before us and were greeted nicely. As we followed my two sisters and both their boyfriend's went in first and greeted nicely. My boy friend and I came in a few steps after and so happened to catch the same lady who had greeted my sisters pointing a clothes hanger towards them to one of the associates, as I read her lips "WATCH THEM!" she then saw my reaction and walked towards the associate whispering to her, as if she wanted us to know they got their eye on us. I was so mad!! I yelled at my sisters and let them know what that lady had done. Never in my life had I felt so disrespected! All my sisters and their boyfriend's had hollister, a famous brand for young teenagers, on and soccer clothes. It was only me who had on my crappy wal-mart clothes, because I went straight to the mall after. That made me so mad, especially when we are ASIAN's. I walked out of the store and tried to show my anger to that lady. Five minutes later I decided I would go back and ask her for an apology, but this time with a security gaurd. It took me a while to get a security guard, but by then I had already brokw down that my sister had to explain the story. The security guard reply "There's nothing I can do for you, its all up to you.." I then said "THEN WHAT ARE YOU HERE FOR!!" he then simply reply, "I'm security.., but I can follow you.." I need help! Iam young and may be asian, but today my sister's and I were disrespected and felt unwanted and accused of being thieves..!! We are not thieves, just because we are colored! TRUST ME I work at wal mart where I have 40 year old caucasians trying to bargain prices that dont exist and lie that they will pay this later at customer service where i won't see them!! PLEASE call me 612-812-0294 I NEED A LAWYER! SOON! 3/17/2008
