Author To upgrade your PC from Windows XP mode to Windows 7, you need to select Cutoum option during installation of Windows 7. This will take a few hours to complete as it is a very complex procedure. You will first need to move all your files to an external hard disk before you install Windows 7. The you need to use original installation discs or setup files that you want to install on your Windows 7. You will be reinstalling each program by hand after you have completed installing Windows 7. If you run Windows Easy Transfer, it will give you a report of the programs that you are using currently with your Windows XP.

You will also need to check the efficiency of your OS. A Windows 7 package disk comes with 32 bit as well as 64 bit installation disks. 64 bit OS has ability to handle large amount of memory. You need to check if your computer is capable for the 64 bit version. You can do this by clicking Start and then right click My Computer. Then go to Properties. If you cannot see "x64 Edition", it means you have a 32 bit version of Windows XP. If you see "x64 Edition" then you can run the 64 bit version of Windows 7.

Hope this information is helpful.
