Bush's reaction to Natalie Maines comment says so much about him and his motives. A real President would have responded by saying something like "I'm sorry she feels like that but the reason we want to do this is so the people of Iraq will have the right to speak as freely as she and other Americans can." Then again, that would have been a lie, because that's not why he's fighting this war, and Bush is more interested in dividing people than uniting them. |

using a name like "country boy" instead of your real name seems pretty cowardly to me if you really believe what you say. it took a lot of guts for natalie maines to say what she said no matter where she said it. you might not like her but she spoke her mind and she was right. she said what she said because she didn't think we should be risking american lives in iraq. you may be willing to risk other peoples lives but you would probably feel different if someone special to you had been one of the 240 or so killed over there. |

Actually, Whitney, my brother almost got sent over there. But Turkey decided not to let us use their land. He was ready to go. I saw it as that we were doing a good deed by setting those people free of Saddam. That is what the war was called "Iraqi Freedom" Ok, so alot of the soldiers over are ok with what they are fighting for. Now, I'm not saying that there ain't any that don't want to fight, because there are some, but that is in any war. |

Listen, I know the circumstances of the war are difficult but the war in its entirety was not all pointless. Soldiers are dying, and that's not good. We need to finish this up and get out as soon as possible.
Hopefully we can liberate those others. Bush is trying with his road map to peace. Sure some of his moves are questionable, but hey what prez doesn't have to make tough decisions and act on them to his best knowledge.

I agree, Fan, that whether TK wrote a song for his father is a different matter than whether Iraq has WMD's. We don't know answer to the former, though he says he did and that would be good enough for most of us. As for the WMD's, we've had 2 months to find them. If we had gathered so much intelligence on them, you think we would have found them by now, right?

Angela, I have to disagree strongly with you about our President, and also about the Iraqi people. Bush would be a much better President if he would listen to Colin Powell and ignore Rumsfeld and Cheney. The best thing that could come out of all of this is Colin Powell running for President and winning in 2004. And if things are so great for the Iraqi people why are they murdering our soldiers? If this administration thought that they could go in and remove Saddam Hussein and that everything would take care of itself after he was gone, they are stupid.
As for you Fan, it's not really my job to give you evidence about why the world is no more safe today than it was before the war started. I think you could find that yourself if you know how to read, but here are a few examples:
1. North Korea still has nuclear capability and is run by a dictator who has murdered as many of his people as Hussein did. It's interesting that we KNOW North Korea has functioning nuclear facilities and yet we declared war on Iraq on a hunch. Maybe it was because Iraq has oil?
2. Osama bin Laden is still alive. There was a story in the Philadelphia Inquirer last month about a poll that showed a majority of Americans think that Saddam Hussein masterminded the 9/11 attacks and that we have found WMD's in Iraq. It's scary that American's are that poorly informed. Maybe that's why so many of them supported the war? The point is that the man who masterminded the deadliest attacks ever on American soil is still out there, and we're going after someone else.
3. Saddam Hussein is still alive. W and Daddy Bush have one thing in common: Neither one knows how to finish a job. Another thing is that they spell trouble for the economy. Let's hope they have one more thing in common--NOT getting re-elected.
There are 3 things for you, Fan. I won't even get into the unrest in Indonesia, where the hatred for the US is at an all time high, the suicide bombings in Israel, the trouble in Liberia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and many other African nations, the social unrest in Argentina due to the economy (which was brought down in part by poor deals with companies like Enron and Halliburton). Of course, you don't care about all of those places, because Fox News Channel doesn't report on them. If you think that the world is more safe just because there haven't been any more 9/11-style attacks, you are very naive. By that standard, we could say that the world was a safer place when Clinton was President, because nothing like that happened when he was in office. Of course that's an unfair comparison. Saying that the world is more safe because there haven't been any terrorist attacks since the war started is like a cigarette smoker saying that the threat of cancer is a lie because they've smoked for years and haven't gotten cancer. The threat is there, and we haven't done anything to get rid of it. |

It's incredible that this is still an issue. It's becoming more and more obvious that the Bush administration lied about weapons of mass destruction and Iraq's nuclear capability in order to justify a war. They are sacrificing American lives for a war that should never have been fought. And don't start this crap about how we got rid of Saddam Hussein. He's still out there and the world is no more safe today than it was before we went into Iraq. It's certainly a lot less safe for our soldiers. The same "liberal media" that kept Monica Lewinski and Whitewater in our faces is not demanding answers from this administration, and that's an outrage. The result is dead soldiers and further instability in the Middle East. I don't expect the right wing to demand answers. After all, these are the same people who think that murdering doctors and bombing clinics is justifiable. For those of you who think the word "liberal" is a dirty word, consider this: Timothy McVeigh and Eric Rudolph were "conservatives" and look at all of the pain and suffering they brought to innocent people in this country. i listened to the radio last night while i was trying to sleep hoping that i would hear something by the ocean waves and that song by kylie minogue came on the can't get you out of my head song and i couldn't get it out of my head all night. everytime i would start to fall asleep that song would come back into my head and wake me up so i barely slept last night and so i got out of bed and made some coffee and i had the whole pot of coffee and now i am wired and i called the office and they told me to stay home. i wish i had something to help me sleep. |
