Saying they were ashamed of the Country's President in a Foreign country is quite disrespectful. For Clinton, ok explain more please. What, about him being a jackass and messing around with the intern? Messing around with an intern is in no way trying to help the nation and therefore he can be ridiculed all he wants. Bush is trying to help the nation be peaceful. That argument makes no sense whatsoever. The actions are totally different. |

When have the Dixie Chicks ever shown disrespect toward their country? Never! They disagreed with Bush and said they were ashamed to be from the same state as him. That is NOT disrespect for the country. If disagreeing with the President is showing disrespect toward country, then many of you were guilty of the SAME THING while Clinton was President! |

Well actually, we( veterans) are better off benefit wise. But anyway, Natalie Maines should not go around attacking Toby Keith for his beliefs anymore than anyone else, most of the country thinks that this mess with the dixie chicks is competely out of hand, along with many artists who have gone on record as saying she has gotten out of control. I understand that some of Bush's things may be off target but trust me on the issue that G.I.'s and Veternas have more benefits. The medical system at the bases and at private hospitals has improved under Bush's control and believe me, I know. I have to use it quite often and I have saved a lot of money compared to the earlier 8 years. Not to mention that if Clinton had gone on cutting defense troops, we wouldn't even have had enough men available to go and take care of business when we needed to. In the case of 9/11, some reports have been suggested to state that Bin Laden and Hussein were working togehter on that attack and if you have watched the reports, Bush has said that he will continue to work on Bin Laden as well. The world needs to know that we will not tolerate people coming in to our country and attacking us. If people are upset because they believe our attacks were unfounded, what about all the attacks Bin Laden and Hussein have done? They have done far worse than we have, and I firmly support the President and Toby Keith. I still think it is tactless and ridiculous that Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks have decided to go as low as to wear an F.U.T.K. especially at the awards. That is just plain tacky and idiotic!! As I said, she is just as spoiled brat. |

Is it my freedom to say what I think? If so, I am not surprised.
Is it my beliefs? If so, don't count on it. For me to give up my beliefs is about as useless as expecting you to give up yours. That's one of the great things about being an American. We can exist together with different beliefs and opinions and not kill each other. I might disagree with you about political issues and music, but I would fight for your right to have your opinions.
I think it's impressive that you felt strongly enough about this issue to vote for Toby Keith over 10000 times today. I salute your dedication to your cause. |

Susan, the only people who "have more benefits under Bush" are the richest 2% of the population who are the prime beneficiaries of the most lopsided tax cut in history. At the same time, our economy has lost nearly 3,000,000 jobs. President Bush inherited one of the strongest economies in our country's history, and he started wrecking it immediately. |

Yes Bush the first and his Secretary of Defense (Dick Cheney) should have finished Desert Storm. However, doing so would not have taken care of the guy who was responsible for 9/11. That was Osama bin Laden. Incidentally, Hussein and bin Laden are both lunatics that our government funded (against Iran and the USSR, respectively) for years. |

Brion, do you think we should go after every tyrant in the world? If so, we need to take care of business in Saudi Arabia as well. Saudi Arabia is maybe the most repressive regime in the world and has funded a large part of the terrorism. Saudi Arabia was home to 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11. |

I didn't realize how the Bush administration was going after veterans benefits until I read Buccaneers post. I looked it up on Google and sure enough there it was. The more I learn about this administration the more I agree with Natalie Maines statement about Bush. |

Jessica's doesn't think it's OK for anyone to wear an "FUTK" shirt but wants to sell "FUDC" shirts? That's typical of the logic of the anti-DC camp. Props to Natalie Maines for saying what she thinks, not what she thinks people want to hear! That takes guts. |

It's not that they don't like their music because of what they said, it's that they are so disgusted and will not listen to their music anymore. For example if you liked a certain product and their commercial portrayed something against your beliefs, you may not buy that product ever again. It may work fine, but your opinion has changed about it. |

I respect Toby Keith for writing a song to honor his late father, especially because his father fought for this country. My father also fought for this country, in Vietnam. I am proud of him, and everyone else who has defended our freedoms. That's why I am bothered about what the Bush administration tried to do to veterans' benefits. The Bush budget, passed by the House of Representatives on March 21, 2003, cut $28.6 billion from veterans' benefits while approving a $726 billion tax cut, the majority of which was to go to the richest 1%. Thankfully, a bipartisan effort in the Senate restored most of those cuts and reduced the tax cut. It's amazing to me that the "Liberal media" never reported this travesty. Thank goodness for a few elected officials from both parties who care about those who risked their lives for this country. My dad doesn't depend on those benefits, but there are a lot of vets who do, and we do precious little to help them as it is. |

Yeah, Saddam Hussein is a terrorist who doesn't deserve to walk this earth. I agree with that. But he's not the one who perpetrated to attacks on 9/11. I thought those were the terrorists we were after. When we couldn't find Osama bin Laden we decided to go for someone easier to find. Just two problems with that idea: 1. We can't find Saddam Hussein, either. 2. Now we have to decide what to do with Iraq. What plan do we have for Iraq? Does anyone know? I keep hearing the word "democracy" used. That means "one person, one vote." I am sure FAN doesn't understand this, because he has voted for Toby Keith about 4000 times on this poll. What would "democracy" mean for Iraq? It would mean that the Shiite majority (over 60% of the population) would control the government, just like in Iran. You remember Iran, one of the other "Axis of Evil" countries? We won't let that happen, but we can't let the Kurds (about 30%) take control either. That would anger our good friends in Turkey. So what do we do? Did anyone in the administration think about this? I doubt it. So it looks like we will engage in nation-building, and that's not going to make anyone in the Middle East or elsewhere happy. I am afraid that the result will be more resentment of the US and increased terrorism. |

I think that DC=Free Speech calling Toby Keith a "moron" (which I don't agree with, because he obviously understands what the market wants) is very minor compared to the names that some of the other posters have called the Dixie Chicks. |

Yeah for oil, because we sure stole alot of oil from them in the last war(note the sarcasm). Oil for what Oil? Do you think we will take it? Come on we are not thieves. Yes it was worth it. I guess you want terrorists to run the world. Funny how poeple side with terrorists...And DC=Free Speech, go ahead and attack his music, thats only veru ignorant of you. WHy don't you start name calling next, oh wait you did("moron"). Kiss politicians butt? How, by writing a patriotic song that he had very stong feelings towards? Keith says he wrote the song about his father, Hubert "H.K." Covel, who served in the Army. Covel died March 24, 2001, in a car crash. "He taught me to be a flag-waving patriot long before it was cool to wave a flag like it is now," Keith said. So there he writes for reasons. Do your homework. The dixie Chicks have a person named Robin Lynn Macy writing their songs. I dont call that talented. Yes TRUE they have great vocals and they make a great group. I am not bashing them, they are a successful group and I do not think their music is bad. There's the difference. I have heard both musicians many songs and am not attacking a certain one just the actions of them is not needed. Just keep politics out of music. They hurt a lot of their loyal fans by doing what they did. I support free speech, but come on...keep your thoughts to yourself when your a professional. These girls have gotten death threats, vandalized houses all because Natalie said what she said. Overall, both good musicians, some people just need to know when to keep their mouth shut.

I support the Dixie Chicks! They spoke out against a President for fighting starting a war for oil. Iraq doesn't have any weapons of mass destruction. Wake up, America! Here's my favorite quote about the Dixie Chicks and their comments in March. This came from a protester in South Carolina in early May, and was reported in the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram: "You don't speak out against your commander-in-chief unless there's scandal, like Clinton."
Talk about your twisted logic. I think it illustrates the thinking of too many people in this country: "You are entitled to say what you believe, as long as I agree with it." |

Crimson Dynamo, I don't think that anyone ever said that Natalie Maines' freedom of speech is being compromised by people boycotting her music. What I and others who have supported the Dixie Chicks in this forum have criticized is the characterization of her as anti-American. All she said was "Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas." People who disagree with the President are no less patriotic than people who do. If that were the case, there would be no room for dissent, and dissent is vital to this or any free society. |

Ms. Maines' freedom of speech is not infringed upon by people not buying her music!
The First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
If people disagree with Ms. Maines, decide to purchase other music, or bash the heck out of her, her Freedom of Speech is not infringed upon, and those that disagree with her are exercising their own Freedom of Speech! |

I wasn't a fan of the Dixie Chicks until all these people started attacking them. Now I have Wide Open Spaces, Fly, and Home. I listen to them and really enjoy their music. This is not the "end of a truly talented trio." Their sales have not suffered, because most Americans have the mental capacity to realize that saying what you believe is not a crime. What is "ANTI-AMERICAN" is saying that someone doesn't have a right to say what she thinks, just because you disagree with her! |

Jeremy, are you saying that Natalie Maines is not entitled to voice her opinion? When has she said ANYTHING against the USA or the men and women fighting for their country? Never. Just because she said she was ashamed to be from the same state as the President does not make her un-American, any more than those conservatives--and there were millions of them--who attacked Bill Clinton for eight years. And, as I recall, this country was in a lot better shape when Clinton was President. |
