I think it's kind of funny that the same people who accused the Dixie Chicks of being un-American for their comments are now watching Glenn Beck and listening to Rush Limbaugh. Yet, they don't hold Beck or Limbaugh accountable for their comments about President Obama, which were FAR worse than anything that Natalie Maines said about Bush. It shows how hypocritical many conservatives are, and how little they actually understand the concept of freedom of speech. It goes both ways, even if you don't agree. |

I travel and do alot of business through america, I work for a financial institution in canada, and I'm well aware of the state america is in and how its DEEPLY affecting canada as well. As u know we are the sister to your country and we also pay the prices for your leaders ( BUSH ) mistakes. Canadian soldiers are fighting that "war" too and we work together as a team as an aliance. So don't you dare say its easy for me to say, because we are also paying for the price here in canada for what is going on in the US. I can't believe this MAD MOM. I also have a family member in Afganistan right now. I spoke with him on facebook last night. I am canadian and we are helping fight this "supposed war " Bush had made comments that if Canada was not with them, we were against them" What kind of leader threatens another country for not wanting to support this war, that has clearly been a mistake and led to so many deaths from US,CANADA, IRAQ,AFGHAN etc... why would u want a president that leads you into war.. You can't be fooled by the media.. I've been there to Afghan and Iraq. There are so many innocent good people. Obama will bring peace to the US. The US will be strong again, and not because we have soldiers and weapons, because we will be Powerful with peace and CHANGE and growth. Obama is not just smooth words and fake smiles.. He's insightful... a genius. First day in office and he has already working on shutting down torturing people. PEACE IS WHAT WE NEED. Not war and killing and retaliation. PEACE... I would rather have my family member shaking hands with an iraqi or afghan then shooting each other.. and u say ur son would go back if he could? why would anyone ever want to be a war zone? ready to shoot someone? As a parent of a wounded soldier who served proudly in Iraq I am truly dissapointed in Toby Keith's support for Obama. Our son would gladly go back if he were able too, and supports John McCain as do we. This is a slap in the face to our sodiers and his listeners! For a man who has stood so proud for our country I have to wonder why he is so misinformed. Obama is not who we need to lead our country. He has smooth words and a fake smile. Saddam was a secularist. al-Qaeda is a fundamentalist organization. bin Laden held Saddam in contempt because he was not a devout fundamentalist. Even bin Laden thought Saddam was a dog, for different reasons than we did.

Amber you say you support the troops, but it seems that you disagree in the way they keep you free. If you where to ask the men and women in the war if they thought that it was needed they would say yes. So in my opion the way you support them is to trust in there decision's and actions that they make to keep us safe.
When it comes to the decision to go to war it takes more than President Bush, it takes a vote by Congress. Also you must have forget that Clinton had Bin Laden but was pressured by the saudi's to release him. So he elected not to do what was needed, knowing that he was planning something against us. So you see it is in Clinton's lap. Clinton's whole administation had something to do with it. The fact that they didn't let the intelligence agency's to communicate information between each other along with a host of other things that where done wrong.
The fact remains that these people are thought t ohate us from the time they are born and this started before we where born. So this is not something that just started. There is nothing that Clinton or Bush did to create this. There have been several attacks before 9/11, this is not something that just started also. It also has been proven that Saddam was suppling them with safe hadden, equipment, and money. You know he was planning something also. If you do some research you will find that these attacks have been going on for years and it has nothing to do with oil. In ther belief you and I need to be eliminated. SO WHEN YOU SAY SOMETHING LIKE WAHT SHE SAID you compromise what the troops are doing in my opion. It seems that you are just reading off a CNN telepromter when you say some of the things you say. |

Contrary to what many within the power structure of the republican party would have you believe, those of us who are moderate or liberal love this country as well. We also salute the contributions and sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform. We know that they keep us free. That's the main reason that I disagreed with our invasion of Iraq and why I want the war to end. Our troops should never have been sent over there. In my opinion, anyone who REALLY supports the troops wants to bring them home.
I think it was correct for Natalie so say WHAT she said WHERE she said it. It is important for people around the world to realize that not all Americans support the policies of this administration. And if things had been done right in the first place, there NEVER would have BEEN a 9-11. Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, and Rice were so focused on Iraq in 2001 that they totally ignored the threat from Al-Qaeda. They ignored a report that said "Bin Laden determined to attack US" and even outlined the use of passenger planes as missiles. That's in Bush's lap, not Clinton's!
Finally, if you think that our invasion of Iraq has made us safer, you are right in the short term. In the long term, it will make things gravely unsafe for our country. By "fighting them on their land instead of ours," we have made an entire generation of people in the Middle East anti-American and increased membership in terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda. You need to understand that Iraq posed no threat to us whatsoever. Saddam Hussein, as evil as he was, had NO connection to bin Laden or Al-Qaeda. Bush was the best thing that ever happened to bin Laden, and vice versa. I respectfully ask that you educate yourself on the issue. |

As a person who has been to war for your freedoms, I don't judge a persons patriotism by if you have served or not. It is sad that the people who abuse the freedoms they have are not willing to stand up and fight for what they claim is there rights. Toby Keith is not a patriot. His father died almost a year before he even wrote that "patriotic" song. He wrote the song to capitalize from the sales that would rush in because of the recent events of 9/11. It wasn't a coincidence. USA gets attacked, people feel patriotic, write a song that will sell millions to the morons who've made themselves known to be mindless followers. Well, it worked, didn't it? Natalie Maines spoke her mind. She did not attack the USA or Texas or Americans. She spoke out against the moron that you other morons voted for. "... we're ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas." Correct me if I'm wrong, but that does not say at all that Texas is bad. Nor does it mention ANYTHING about the soldiers, let alone in a negative or unsupportive context.
Did Bill Clinton send thousands of soldiers to their deaths? Did Bill Clinton lie about the reasons for sending people to their deaths? I do not support the war. I think the biggest problem in the middle-east is the foreign troops that are in the middle-east. They will fight, they will always fight until they decide to stop fighting. An outsider going in with bombs and guns blazing will not change their attitudes, and it certainly will not come close to changing their cultural or religious beliefs. Bush is a moron for thinking he can force a government upon another nation and have the nerve to call it "constitutional". Yep, them there Iraqis have the constitutional right to have my beliefs, so lets go make them!

There have been a lot of stupid comments posted here in the 4+ years that this board has been active. However, the one by "Freedom" comes very close to taking the prize for the most stupid one.
Freedom, instead of asking why the Dixie Chicks don't go to the war zone, why don't you ask why George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, and the other chicken hawks who are quick to send other peoples sons and daughters into this illegal war don't go fight themselves? While you're at it, ask them why they didn't serve their country during the Vietnam era. Also, ask Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani why they didn't go to Vietnam, and why their kids aren't fighting in this war that they support. And maybe you could ask the Bush twins. And maybe Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter, and those airheads on "Fox and Friends" can tell you why they repeat the lies from the Republican echo chamber but aren't willing to lay their lives on the line for a war they say they believe so much in.
You miss the point. The Dixie Chicks spoke out against this war criminal of a President and his pointless war when hardly anyone else did. Anyone who has paid attention to what has happened since the war started knows that this war was a terrible mistake. WAKE UP!!! |

The Dixie Chicks especially Natalie Maines maybe had some intuition on their side when stating that they were ashamed that George Bush was from Texas. George Bush has since proven to be the least popular president of the United States since polling began. He also ignored the United Nations and took it upon himself to engage in war with Iraq on the premise that they were producing or storing weapons of mass destruction but none were ever found. It amazes me that the USA being the greatest power in the world should have such poor intelligence. I know that it is great to have pride in one's country but political leaders should not be followed blindly. There were probably people that would have been offended with any negative remarks about Richard Nixon but his popularity was still greater than George Bush's polls. I think Richard Nixon's dishonesty was less than that of George Bush. George Bush has over 3,000 young Americans killed in a war that cannot be won . Would Americans continue to fight on by whatever means possible if a foreign army occupied their land? Isn't that part of the reason they maintain the right to bear arms? I would like to point out that the war is also a r that religious war that has a history going back to the Crusades. This war will never end until the foreigners leave the country and then the fighting will continue amongst the Iraqians. |

Toby seen an opportunity to capitolize on the patriotism angle and went for it. He did forget however, that the freedom of speech that the Chicks exercised is what many Americans have died defending in the past. |
