C. McGregor - Unless you're an Australian, which as I take from your "the Australian people" that you are not, I strongly suggest you rethink your racist comments. Just because an assumption was made, it does not mean Australians should be classified as "redneck Aussies". I'm not in support for what was done, but it was done with the best of intentions, and unless you have serious political and historical content to back up your argument, I would rethink your statements. Also, I would consider myself an "average Aussie", and I'm definitely not a redneck, or uneducated, and I definitely give two hoots about deforestation, and have also, been to those "special places" as I'm sure a majority of Australians have. The next generation of Australians are going to try our hardest to stop all the nonsense of deforestation; thank you for your support, but no racism please. It's not in the hands of anybody but the government, so bag them. And, AustraliaKiller (I take it you're not Australian), good luck killing a population of over 20 million. |

Unfortunenly the Australian people have still got a redneck attitude. They are easily mislead by brain dead logging companies photos of a forrest that has re-generated 20 years after logging. What the brain dead logging companies fail to tell the redneck Aussies is that bio diversity has dropped 80% as a result of logging and the soils have become degraded and weeds have taken advantage of this destruction. The average Aussie jumps on the band wagan for some things, however this is usually short lived when something else comes along. Most people don`t give a two hoots or if they do they do nothing about it because they have never been to these special places and probably never will. Tasmanains rely to much on the redneck economy. They need to be educated. I recommend they watch the Canadian movie `Clear Cut`. Then we will see how tough these uneducated rednecks are. |

This makes me feel sick to the stomach. WHEN will the people of Tasmania and Australia actually do something to stop woodchipping and destruction of our wonders. Doesn't anyone actually get it- how can you replace these trees?? Wake up Australia before it all too late. |

Our plea is to the Tasmanian people, ABC and Government to make a difference in this world and help with saving this incredible, area of wonder. HOW can anyone destroy this area??? Do you realize that if you drew a line on our equator and went around the globe at the same latiitude as the Blue Tier there is ABSOLUTELY not one other forest as this that exists on our planet today? Do you realize HOW many people think of Tasmania AS A place of natural wonder like no where else in the world? (This will certainly not be the case for much longer if we keep digging our heads in the sand and letting the Government and Forestry continue their path of destruction). WHY are we allowing the annihilation of an area of wilderness that will be lost for ever. This area of beauty life and wonderment has benefits far reaching than being dimished to chop sticks, paper towels or wood chips for Japan. How can you or anyone equate this logging as being for the betterment of mankind? Perhaps we need to ask ourselves who really benefits from this action- where does the money go?? It certainly does not go to Tasmanian schools, roads or the Tasmanian people- AND even if it did- is it worth it??? What is it that takes mankind to stop this short sighted, cash driven action? To the Government, Tasmanian people, the newspapapers, Television companies- anyone at all, help now and please do something to stop this madness before it is too late, and we have no big trees or areas such as this to visit.
