Dick After having 3 Garmins over the past 6 years, the most recent being a nuvi 1450. Out of curiosity, I bought a 550XXL TomTom. Sorry, but it just comes up short! First, it doesn't switch on and off with the ignition like all the Garmins do. It has no elevation reading and has no "trip log", two items I'm used to using. These are just three problems I've encountered after a very short period of use, but they're enough for me to put the TomTom in 'storage' as a back up...maybe. 2/20/2011

Mer Thomas Thanks for the information. I am a first time user and wanted to know more info about both products before I made my purchase. Also I am new to this area and having a GPS would help tremendously instead of calling my significant other to tell him I'm lost yet again. 10/20/2010
