A good ol' hockey fight relived

April 20th, 1984 is a bad playoff souvenir for all hockey fans -- on Good Friday night, the Montreal Canadiens and Quebec Nordiques, legendary rivals, got into a fight for a solid hour. Former players went back recently to put the grudge away regarding the battle. Why do fans need to relive that fateful night and what really happened?

phil chew this is an excellent recounting of that night in 1984,though i think your a little harsh on mr bruce hood.i admired mr hood and always enjoyed the games he officiated.being a hockey official at any level is diffecult to say the least and here he was with on the ice with some of the most diffecult players to control,not even their coachs could do that. 6/6/2009
John McCurdy I remember this fight. I was 16 at the time and, being a Leaf fan, I wanted Quebec to destroy the Canadiens. This isn't quite what I had in mind though. After the 2nd period, I remember tearing out of the house, running full speed to the local arcade/convenience store for some munchies. Everyone there was simply freaking out about what had just happened (the store owner had hooked up a television set for the playoffs). After realizing that this was something people were going to be talking about for years, I ran all the way home again, and took up my original seat. I couldn't believe it! They were showing replays still. Shouldn't the third be starting any second now? Wait a minute...these aren't replays, it's the third period now and they're still fighting! I swore that I would never forget that game,and here I am talking about 25 years later! 3/30/2009
Stu Lyster Oddly enough I received some hockey cards in the mail and found an old Chris Nilan. I then search out his name and came upon this website. I had no idea that the date of this fiasco was April 20th, as I read and send this comment to you. Brings back memories of how hockey used to be. Not the brawls but that period of time when it was all that mattered to me. 4/20/2005
