Fighting to save France's horses from the dinner plate. For years, visitors to a country famed for its sophistication have been intrigued to see the plaster horse heads hanging over butcher shop doors. "I thought it meant they used horses to take their meat to market.

Personally, I wish that horses did not have to be slaughtered but the reality lies in the fact that we have to many unwanted horses. If these horses were all able to be placed with rescue groups they would be there now. There are less places then ever to keep a horse, even if you have the money. Most of the barns in my county have sold out to development companies. Who"s at fault for slaughter? Everyone who has ever made a dollar off of a horse. Breeders, owners, trainers, jockeys, this includes people who show horses and rental stables as well. Equestrian magazines all have adds for stallions available to breed and babies available to buy. I dont see these breeders, ort the buyers stepping up to take an already born unwanted horse. Sorry guys , this one is on us. Let's stop blaming the meat buyer for making money of of our garbage. What's so speceil about that purebred arabian in your back yard . How many slaughter bound horses could you have purchased for his $5,000 price tag? It's o.k., just try not to imagine those unwanted horse's screams of death, as you and your new baby trot into the show ring.. |

I'm ashamed to be french just for that fact. The horse meat industry stinks and I'm not surprised some english people are not aware horse are on the plate in France and else !! Absolutely degrading to have the best companion/partner someone can have in a lifetime to be used abused and finally killed for its meat. I've seen horses with my own eyes in a slaughter house, they know what awaites them and they do cry too you know! |

I love meat...beef pork and fowl.
But I would never in my right or wrong mind eat horsemeat and never in my wildest dreams did I think that horses woul/could be eaten. it is truly horrifying. |
