Mistakes in Genesis

A critique of the first book of the Bible. As Paine fueled the fire that freed the bodies of Americans from the British, he also freed the minds of Americans from Christianity. And as Lincoln freed bodies, Ingersoll freed minds. Glorious times, glorious men, glorious ideas.

Mike Tomlinson Land was not created on the second day...it came on day three when he seperated the waters. The firmament is not land, it holds back the waters of the sky and birds fly in it. 10/4/2006

imgorgeous29 I personally don't believe in the "christian" version of God. I do believe in a higher being, but I'm not so self-rightious as to claim I know everything about God or what is "true" or not. You talk about God giving us freewill to either love him or not; the freedom of choice. To me, that is contradictory because the options are 1. love God, and accept him and spend eternity in heaven. Or 2. Deny him and spend eternity in hell. It's pretty clear to me that he doesn't give us much choice. 1/28/2004
Daniel I would like to shed some light onto this critique, without sounding abrasive.
First order up, Adam's first job...name-calling. In the original text, which is Hebrew, the the word is "min", which scholars believe is close to our scientific term "genus", or family. So Adam didn't name every single animal, just the families.
The second point we have no real proof for. Nobody truely knows that the Basque and Uralic languages where from 23,000 to 8,000 BC. We currently, unless one was discovered tonight while I was writing this, do not have a fool-proof way of dating. Even Carbon dating has been proven wrong.
As for the "woman theory", God did not create Eve from Adam because he "had no more dust left." I would like to know what version of the Bible you have, so I can call the editor and correct his Hebrew-English Dictionary. God performed that act to set the example for many things, one being marriage. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." (Gen 2:24)
And the last point, the fall of man. God created us, true. But, for some reason, He gave us a choice. To love Him, or not to love Him. What fun would it be to force somebody to love you? So, even though God is omnipotent, He still wants us to love Him by our own freewill.
I hope that I have come across to you as concerned, not condemning. The Lord know's we have ALL been there before. When we stop doubting, we stop learning. I pray that this opens your eyes and heart just to explore a little deeper into the facts and your soul.

Amy I have to say the "Mistakes in Genesis" article is pure hogwash. It's a typical "the Bible has contradictions" and "evolution disproves creationism" blah blah whatever. If the author had an origional thought in his head instead of parroting what he's heard, he'd know supposed "contradictions" occur because a person doesn't take time to reference the material or do history research. I've had the same questions and skepticism, and upon doing my own research, it is easy to see how the blind could be fooled. But if someone is truly seeking truth, the Bible is inerrant and has no contradictions. As a skeptic myself, the "contradictions" have only strengthened my belief in the Bible and my faith in the Lord. As for the creationism vs. evolution, it is FACT that evolution has NOT been proven. That's simply athiestic blind argument, not truth. Question, research, find truth. It's easy. I could go on for days about all this, but I'm frankly tired of having to keep telling those who refuse to see that they should open their eyes, hearts, and minds. All I'm going to say is that the author of the article has not taken the time to actually use his brain and do the research to answer his weak "points." 7/15/2003
