College basketball's best rivalries

February has often been called the "Dead Month" in the sports' world. In college basketball, however, it is the month when teams begin to separate themselves from the pack and rise to the top of the NCAA, and rivalries play a large part in that.

Marie Kansas/Missouri is a huge deal! it creates tension and fights during basketball season all the time, its better than an honorable mention.....plus it goes back to civil war days during the time of bleeding Kansas, its not only heated basketball, its a historical war 4/3/2008

Jared IU-PU is out-dated and not as firey as it used to be. I'm an Indiana fan, being an IU grad. from Bloomington, Ind. and let me tell you, us Hoosiers fans hate Purdue, but not nearly as much as we hate the Illini. Even before they started whining about the Gordon "controversy," IU-UI was HUGE. Besides us as the obvious no. 1, Illinois would probably be the second most elite Big Ten basketball program, and in the '80's we were both very successful (Henson vs Knight. . . I wonder who won that one!) IU-PU is the second best, but IU-UI is the best rivalry in the Big Ten.

Hell, it's even a good one in football (but it can't take the honor of being over IU-PU on the football field).

John Pica Great stuff about the Big Five. If you mentioned Saint Joe stealing the Villanova Wildcats clothes you should also note the time the Wildcat punched out the Hawk in the early 70s. The Hawk was carried off the court. 12/10/2007
Jeff How do you possibly leave out Duke vs. Maryland? This probably the second best rivalry in college hoops, but apparently no one wants to give Duke credit for begin associated with the top two rivalries. 2/26/2007
