What has space exploration ever done for us?
Space flight began with superpower prestige - and the race to put a man on the moon. What began as human adventure delivered technologies which changed the world.

I think all of the exploration of space, the "achievements", the discoveries, the inventions, all of it...they have done nothing for those on earth who STILL can not eat a meal daily. People who are still living and dying in the world without ever caring in the slightest of whether or not someone put their foot on the moon. They lived their lives wondering what food they were going to put in their mouths.
NASA is exciting...humans going out into space...exploring the great unknown. The problem I have with that is that there are PLENTY of knowns HERE on THIS planet that need to be explored and solved. HUNGER and DISEASE tops that list. For the life of me, I can not understand why our government, companies, individual donors, etc., keep this program going. Could we NOT just "pause" the program and spent all those BILLIONS AND BILLIONS of dollars on the problems we have HERE?? It's funny, too....anytime I make that remark in conversation...wherever I am, everyone agrees. I'm not saying END it, but come on people, How many homes in New Orleans could we build with the funds it costs to make ONE space mission?? The United States cares more about POWER and PRESTIGE than it does about it's people. That is obvious. I also just read that candidate McCain even has on HIS website his desire to make SURE the program has everything it needs.
He believes support for a continued US presence in space is of major importance to America's future innovation and security. He has also been a staunch advocate for ensuring that NASA funding is accompanied by proper management and oversight to ensure that the taxpayers receive the maximum return on their investment. John McCain believes curiosity and a drive to explore have always been quintessential American traits. This has been most evident in the space program, for which he will continue his strong support.
I'd like to see it continue (can't see how landing on the moon (again) could possibly teach us anything else, except.."ha ha we did it again") but, could we not halt it for a while and get our issues worked out here on the ground first??
What am I missing, NASA?
