Barry Vorster Dear sir,
I would appreciate it if your news services could provide some exposure to my attached call for action on the above issue. In the next few days I will be sending the attached file to news services and anti-war groups around the world. All African countries, indeed the whole of the non-aligned nations group, have expressed their opposition against America’s intention to go to war against Iraq, and it is time that the citizens of Africa consider actions that could be taken to reign in American imperialism. I believe that my attached message should receive media coverage.
Regards,
Barry Vorster

CALL FOR A WORLDWIDE CONSUMER BOYCOTT OF AMERICAN, BRITISH, SPANISH AND AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTS – Barry Vorster, South Africa.
barryvorster@webmail.co.za

The complete and utter contempt with which the American, British, Spanish and Australian governments treat the measured and reasoned views on Iraq that have been expressed by the vast majority of nations gathered at the United Nations is intolerable. Bush, the American, is acting like a typical schoolyard bully and he and his cronies Blair, Aznar and Howard, display an arrogant rage against countries who dare to oppose their views. The Bush gang’s stated intention to go to war against Iraq even if the majority of our leaders in the UN continue to oppose such an action, cannot be left unchallenged.

The utterly contemptible way in which the Bush gang also openly uses American money to bribe and subvert weakling governments such as Turkey’s, to support the gang’s warmongering even though the vast majority of the citizens of the subverted nations oppose such action, shows the utter contempt of the Bush gang for the democratic processes in smaller and poorer countries.

The issue here is not whether any specific action against Iraq is justified or not. The issue is whether we, as the nations of the world, will allow the American bullyboy and his gang of cronies to continue to flaunt with impunity the democratic principles and processes of the UN and of the poor nations that they attempt to subvert to further their cause.

If we do nothing, we face a future in which the USA and UK governments and their small group of lesser cronies will rule our world at their whim - for after Iraq there will be further issues and occasions where they will exercise their muscles to do whatever they please, with the rest of nations of the world, that would by then have become mesmerised by the American gang’s economic and military power, looking on in miserable and dejected silence, doing nothing to stop the spreading American imperialism.

Ever since the fall of the Soviet Block and the end of the cold war, we have been living in a world in which America, as the only remaining super power, has displayed an ever-increasing arrogance in its dealings with other nations, a contemptuous dismissal of opposing views expressed by other nations, and the increasingly-open use of both military and economic threats and bribes to get weaker nations to toe the American line.

We have reached the stage where the United Nations have become an organisation of no consequence, since the Americans can simply not be bothered with the majority views in that forum, and it is therefore left to us, as citizens of the world, to cut the American bullyboy and his gang down to size, by voting with our chequebooks and purses.

If we go on an immediate and prolonged consumer boycott of American, British, Spanish and Australian products and buy instead from countries such as France, Germany, Belgium, Russia, China and the other countries of the anti-war group, then we will be attacking the soft underbelly of the Bush gang.

With an already weak domestic economy, a Dow Jones that is 26% down since Bush took office, an unemployment rate that is up by 33 % and a $157 billion budget deficit, bullyboy Bush is in no position to survive a massive world-wide consumer boycott against his country, and neither will Blair in the UK, Aznar in Spain and Howard in Autralia be immune to the effects of similar boycotts against their countries.

If we as citizens of the world launch such a boycott on a massive scale, the Bush Gang will probably capitulate over the Iraq issue, but it is important that the consumer boycott should not stop when they do. We should continue the boycott until such time as the American share of the world economy has been reduced to the point where they can no longer use their economic power to subvert and dominate the world.

Opponents of my call for a worldwide consumer boycott of the Bush gang will use three arguments why it should not happen. Firstly, they will say that if the American economy contracts dramatically as a result of the boycott, then the whole world will suffer an economic decline. This is nonsense, since the economies of the countries to which we will switch our buyer preference will grow in equal part to the amount by which the American economy shrinks – thus leaving the size of the global economy unchanged.

Secondly, opponents will say that if we weaken America as the only remaining superpower, then we will be unable to deal with rouge nations in future. Again this is nonsense, since no single rogue nation has greater firepower than the collective firepower of the entire community of nations. We cannot afford to have America as a superpower that does not accept directions from the United Nations when it comes to international relations. America has become a loose cannon, dangerous to us all.

Thirdly, opponents will say that if we inflict massive damage to the American, British, Spanish and Australian economies, then we will be hurting the many thousands of citizens in those countries who oppose their leaders’ aberrant behaviour. I acknowledge that this is so, but to use the smug, and often used, American phrase - these poor people will be ‘collateral damage’ in our war against the Bush bullyboy gang. Relief for these people will only come about when they throw their flagrantly arrogant leaders out of government and replace them with reasonable and balanced leaders who will heed the collective view of the nations gathered at the UN. To use another Bush phrase, "regime change" in these countries can bring about a lessening of our mass action against them and a re-acceptance of Americans, Britons, Spaniards and Australians as responsible citizens of the world community.

The way forward would be to:

1. Publicise as widely as possible the start of a twelve-month consumer boycott against American, British, Spanish and Australian products, emphasising the need to continue the boycott past the resolution of the current Iraq crises to achieve the longer-term goal of significantly reducing American economic power and the future abuse thereof.

2. Establish a web-based, searchable database containing the following details about the consumer products that the US, UK, Australia and Spain currently export to other countries (HS Code, brand name & product description) together with the brand names of substitute products that could be purchased from countries opposed to the Bush Gang’s warmongering. The various international media should be used to advertise the existence of the database as a resource to the consumers of the world, and regular newsletters should be established to keep the citizens of the world updated on developments and the successes of the campaign.

3. To increase the speed with which the campaign will impact on the Iraq situation, I further suggest that if you agree with my views on the need for a global consumer boycott, then you need to send emails to the addresses listed below, to inform the Bush Gang of your intentions. If sufficient numbers emails are sent, it would maybe cause the resolve of the above rouge nations to falter, thus averting their irresponsible and unsanctioned actions Iraq.
