Well I am a full fledged hillbilly straight from the mountains of east Tennessee. I don’t take any offense to those jokes, mainly because half of ‘em ain’t accurate, it is more catered to rednecks and such. We can proudly claim the name "hillbilly" because we built a one room home this year on a farm we just bought and live with no form of electricity or indoor plumbing. We have an outhouse, collect rain water for baths, laundry, dishes and process all of our foods. Nothin’ to be ashamed about and folks joking about hillbillies is just a part of life….laugh with them. It ain’t the end of the world ya know! |

I will tell you that, we are very country but we do not talk at all like you fakers are trying to replicate. We have our own dialect that most of you people do not understand. OK this is the bottom line between white trash, hillbillies, and rednecks.
Whitetrash--live in trailor or crappy house but act rich or snobby or better than they are. can live anywhere in USA. younger ones are into the HIP-HOP Scene while older ones listen 2 rock. they care how ppl view them and try 2 change for the better and would rather spend money on luxaries that necessities. white trash can be seen on jerry springer. usually vote democrat.
Hillbilly--lives the simple live and takes it one day at a time. live in ozark, blue ridged, or smoky mountain area. often dont take care of themseves cause nobady cares how they look. usually dont work but manage 2 get by, by growing own food and makingown clothes etc and collects unemployment each month 2 cover other costs. have been in usa longest out of 3 groups. make own whiskey called moonshine. live miles away from any city have been know 2 drive 2 hours for gas or make their own. often hates the goverment and dont care about world events.
Redneck--usually lives in south eastern states streaching from texas 2 delaware but can live anywhere. usually out of shape because of drinking cheap beer. watch all sports and follow each carefully. fathers will fight fathers of their children's foe. they do what they want 2 do and dont care what other non-rednecks think, such as wearing mullets and nascar shirts and decorating their homes with dead animals and nascar items. they do not accecpt and often go out of their way 2 make non-white and/or non-prodistant people feel unwelcome. usually vote republican. |

I am a Red Neck. I live in Greenville, North Carolina. The difference between a hillbillie and a red neck is this:
1.) Hillbillies live in the Appalachia region of the south. Usually MOST hillbillies are in Tennesee, West Virginia, and North Carolina(mountains).
2.) Red Necks live near the coast in the southeast.
3.) Red Necks know all about country food.
4.) YOUNG Red Necks listen to 'new' Country.
5.) TRUE older red encks listen to ''classic'' country.
6.) Red necks have a more southern accent in my opinion.
7.) hillbillies tend to have yankee characteristics.
8.) Hillbillies just want to start a fight with a red neck for no good reason.
9.) Red necks DO SOMETIMES THINK THEY KNOW IT ALL AND DO DO THINGS STUPIDLY SOMETIMES, but when you get to REALLY know a red neck, they are really nice.
Ok, that's about all I can think of! Hope this is helpful to some people who want to REALLY FIND THE REAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HILLBILLIES AND RED NECKS.

Yeah they do. I lived in rural Tennessee for 12 years. The Bubba thing isn't really true, and probably not the leaves thing either, but most of the rest of it is. Not sure if it makes a person a *hillbilly* hillbilly or not, but it's definitely characteristic of the South & esp. of Appalachia. |
