| JoF | My now 1 yr old cat has had intermittent diarrhea since 3 mo.. He came from Humane Society loaded with parasites and all things bad. It took several months and very costly tests to discover cryptosporidia. No antibiotic regimen worked for long. After a year of this, we did an endoscopy and colonoscopy with biopsies. The diagnosis is inflammatory bowel disease. We are now starting steroid therapy which hopefully will resolve his mushy stools, although cannot cure him. My vet said had I not persued from early on, he'd be dead. Few have the resources to pursue. I am hopeful that if he is feeling better and free of discomfort, he will feel like a new cat. When your cat's stool is the consistency of cow piles, and it comes and goes on a rather regular cycle, he may well have IBD. I am hopeful for the first time that we may control this SOB. Note: he was otherwise healthy but for cycles of mushy stools. Not quite diarrhea, but not formed exactly. Sometimes w/ gas. No vomiting or weight loss. His is sort of atypical maybe. We are trying budesodine. Has to be compounded and is costly. So there you are. |

| nora | My cat was diagnosed about three years ago with severe IBD. We tried every food & he was on a ton of medicine (prednisone and leukeran were the main ones). Finally after being prescribed additional medication for his condition which had not improved, I switched to a natural vet and started him on a raw turkey diet (commercially prepared). Now he is cured & has a solid movement every day. It is truly a miracle - and I used to feel so hopeless. Please try raw to see if you can help your kitty without all of the meds, that don't solve the problem - and only make your pet feel worse. | 8/5/2009 |
