| Nicole | I have to disagree with the final comment made in this report. I am a Hurricane Rita survivor. The planning and preparation on the part of our local authorities prevented Rita from being a repeat of Katrina, they issued swift evaucation orders and most people followed those orders. Our children were out of school for two days before we were ordered to evacuate because the authorities were clearing our shelters using the schools' buses and ensuring that the buses were prepared to take local citizens who lacked transportation out of harm's way. The local authorities utilized every resource placed at their disposal to ensure a maximum level of safety and protection both to property and to persons. We were discouraged from returning prior to power beign restored and warned that if we did choose to return, we shouldl be responsible for our own personal needs, as a result most people stayed evaucated until the area had a suitable level of infrasturture re-established. Vounteer organizations came from all over the country to help us rebuild an recover in addtion to the deployment of the National Guard and FEMA. Our authorities were as prepared as they could be in light of two major hurricanes making landfall less than 200 miles apart over a 3 1/2 week time span. | 7/25/2010 |

| W. Lanier | Much of this information is incorrect. In spite of issues with the evacuation of Houston (the third largest city in the U.S.), everyone was eventually gotten out in time. The mistakes that were make with Katrina did NOT happen in Texas. Rita's landfall was more than 300 miles from where Katrina went ashore in Mississippi. Any additional difficulties in New Orleans at the time of Rita were caused by their own incompetent leadership--not Rita. | 5/27/2010 |
