Singing and Playing in Christian Worship - More on Instrumental Music

Is there as much authority found in the New Testament for having instrumental music in Christian worship as there is for singing? Is it personal opinion or the word of God that gives us instrumental music?

Denny Devakaran, as I told the last person that commented you need to go read my article titled "Abuse of the Old Testament" which will answer your objections on the Old Testament as a guide for Christian worship. 11/5/2009
Devakaran The audio sermons of Waymon Swain, completely ignores the Old
Testament references to music. In fact the earliest reference about music is in Gen.4:21 where it is recorded that Jubal son of Lamech
"was the father of all who play the harps and flute" Thereafter there is mention of the Levites endowed with musical talents to sing with musical instruments. The most prominent instance is of King David singing to the accompaniment of harps, Lyres, tambourines, systrums and cymbals.( 2 Sam. 6:5)
We derive our Christian faith both from the old and New testament.
Just because there is no mention of musical instruments as accompaniments to the term SONGS in the New testament, we cannot come to the conclusion that musical instruments have no
place in Church worship. Christians derive their faith from the word
of God, the Bible - both the Old and New testament; As there are ample references in the old testament about the use of musical instruments in temple worship, we cannot simply wish away the role of musical instruemtns in church music.

Denny Adam, I appreciate your reading my article. I will be brief in response. I have already covered your objections in another article entitled "Abuse of the Old Testament." Do a Google search on that phrase with the quotation marks included and it ought to pop up as the first article listed - at least at the time of this comment. Wish you the best. 7/26/2009
Adam What about all the scriptures that talk about praising God with instruments and dancing? (Check out the Psalms, particularly the last couple of chapters) You seem to have neglected those in your article. I'm sure God's pleasure in this (Psalm 149:4) hasn't changed from the Old Testament days until now. Sure, He's made us to sing, but he's also made us to make and use instruments, and also DANCE! (yes, there's definitely certain dancing that's not honouring to God, but there's also singing that's not, either) 7/26/2009
