Peter Tuffey I thought the article was very interesting. I think that drilling oil is the right thing to do because there are plenty of things that we need oil for like boats. Even though I think drilling oil is the right thing to do I think scientists should work harder to find a safer way to drill for the environment. Also, I think there should be safer ways for it to be used, to avoid tragedies like oil spills. 5/17/2011

Joy Bramlett In regards to "saving" energy for future generations & using alternative energy sources like solar energy, hydroelectric powers & wind energy seems to have been proposed & debated for years but NOTHING has had any concrete evidence of ACTION being taken to produce these kinds of energy to date. The other issue in using these kinds of energy is that the products are produced in foreign countries & IMPORTED to the U.S. thus we are still dependent on foreign countries for energy! The U.S. doesn't "MAKE" the components to use wind energy & solar energy, so that's why we don't have what are called JOBS for America! We need to use what we have now & let our future generations of Americans learn, explore & maybe come up with something much more usable & less expensive than what is offered today. We don't have to continue with drilling IF the next generation comes up with something much more useful & less expensive & less invasive. That's just MY opinion.

I do feel the oil drilling in Alaska should be banned for the reason that it could harm the animals that live in the ocean. But i do understand that it earns the state money and helps the citizens money. sarah good info. but you should mention that dependence on foreign oil vs. offshore drilling only saves us few pennies on the dollar. the total cost to drill AND safe guard against spills outweighs the benefits.

commonsense It seems as if those that are the most opposed to drilling are the ones that consume the most fuel (Gore, wealthy politicians, professional greenies, etc.). It's hard to take their issues seriously when they don't talk their own talk. Everyone can conserve (and should). Those that are opposed to drilling should show the rest of us how to live without fuel BY EXAMPLE. Let's see them fly without fuel, etc. At least let's see them fly with other passengers and show some level of conservation. 5/14/2010
