Mohammed holds several key and critical positions in both public and private sectors in Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates. Currently, he is the Secretary–General and member of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, the main entity responsible for managing and monitoring Abu Dhabi Government affairs. He has recently played a major role in leading the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Government Restructuring Committee, which is working to develop a highly efficient and effective organizational structure for all Abu Dhabi Government entities.

Al Bowardi is the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance, which is considered a strategic initiative aiming to optimize the government performance in accordance with the highest international standards, and to make the desired positive transformation towards the culture of excellence. His Excellency has also contributed largely to guiding the efforts to establish the "Abu Dhabi Policy Agenda" including the general objectives and frameworks of the initiatives of various Abu Dhabi Government entities, and the commitment to keep working for realizing the ambitious vision for Abu Dhabi’s future.

As Chairman of the Western Region Development Committee, Al Bowardi works for establishing a new and advanced concept for the development of Abu Dhabi Western Region. He is leading the great efforts being made to enable the local community and enhance the private sector’s participation in the economic activity within this less-developed part of Abu Dhabi Emirate.
