Rebel Too simplistic. The "Civil" war was not about slavery, it was about much more. The Emancipation Proclamation never really freed anyone. Lincoln only used slavery to garner European support. North could not afford to lose control of Southern agriculture or Sea Ports. Lincoln is the only US President to ever declare martial law and suspend the US constitution. Should not be a revered man. The South only wanted self-governance. 1/25/2009
