whale I think the project 10 ^100 idea is great. But how does Google expect to receive quality proposals when Youtube (subsidiary of Google) conducts site maintenance that prevented uploads for submissions on the deadline date? Continue accepting beyond deadline date to make up for blocked submissions! 10/21/2008
Ron McCorkle My idea is this: Instead of taking every high rise vacant building and converting it to expensive to own loft/ condos, why not use some of these buildings to create suitable housing (shelter) for the many homeless persons. In my city alone there are more than enough vacant school buildings that could be converted to smaller more private living quarters that could provide shelter for a lot of people, including individuals and families needing a safe and stable place to live.
I am also interested in creating some creative arts centers for the homeless. It is my belief that there are many stories that could be told through the creative arts. Whether this be story, dance, graphic and media arts, theater or song, it is my feeling that a great resource for creativity is being lost simply because the homeless and or poor cannot afford things like equipment and supplies, studio space and or just a place to rest and relax so that the creative energies can take hold and be expressed.
I feel that with proper mentoring, and a safe and stable environment including proper available nutrition, that the minds of those for which this is intended could be set into play and who knows what the rest of the world will reap from this investment.
I also would like to see an established mental health component to this idea so that those displaced from institutions for the mentally ill would have a place where they could be mentored, assisted with medication compliance and also have access to meaningful rest and relaxation experiences. There are way too many persons that are homeless, living on the streets with mental health issues.
I hold the belief that it is a shame for anyone to ever go homeless or hungry in this country (USA), with all the abundance and prosperity that abounds on our land, there is no reason for us to ever say that there is not enough to go around and be shared.
