Had to go see the house myself October 4, 2009 after dropping my sister off for a wedding nearby on the beach. I actually have my photo in front of the house and have it framed. |

Loved the article and the movie too. The name of the actress in the movie is actually Diane Lane (in case anyone was trying to figure it out). |

kook. that house was damaged long before that movie came out. i'll be glad when that house finally washes away so you idiotic tourists will stop flocking to it. it wasn't even a good movie! |

We just went and visited "the house" this labor day 09 week. The house still stands, the new steps and porch has been washed away from a storm a few weeks ago. Pigeons spent their summer inside the house and the house was up for sale with no success but still remains just as beautiful to me! |

Sounds like a nice day trip. But it's sloppy to get the names wrong, Diane Lane, not Ladd. |

I also went to see the house earlier this year when my family and I took a trip to the outer banks and to be honest -we missed it the first time by. haha. we went to the rodanthe surf shop where i was a major tourist and bought one of their shirts, plus a print of the picture that is on the background. :) anyway, we asked the cashier where the house was and she told us it was the first house going into town. i was too excited to listen so we went the wrong way and went further into the island. but since that was the only thing i wanted to do on our trip ( I AM A MAJOR NICHOLAS SPARKS FAN ) he turned around and we went back by the house. i then realized that was the house i saw going into town in the first place and that it was also the house i had already taken a million pictures of! hahah. the sand was piled high and there was no way to access the beach at that point in the year so we only looked at it from the road, but still, it was pretty amazing! i'm watching nights in rodanthe now and i decided to see what the internet said about the house! haha. |

i'm really sorry to tell you. (i'm not really sure abot this) but i can at least tell you that the whole movie wasn't shot in that house. there's a house in topsail island, north carolina that they either used for a scene or few. i'm positive about this because i live 3 houses down from it and i met richard gere myself. but that is definitely the house shown in the movie. SO COOL! |

Hi Sandra
Thank you for your article and I am jealous that you have been there and I haven't. Maybe one day. I did want to let you know that the lead female actress's name is Diane Lane, not Ladd. Although, there is a Diane Ladd...she used to be on that 70's sitcom, Alice and several movies since. She is also great! Thanks again |

Interesting -- but the actress in the movie is Diane Lane, not Diane Ladd. A common mistake! |

Loved this movie, the house is amazing. From what I have read the filming done inside was not of the actual interior of the house itself. There was some very talented filming of the windows that alluded to the inside. I do hope they make the necessary repairs to restore the house t its former glory. It is amazing that it has withstood the batterings it clearly receives from the sea as it is. Would love to know more about its history. I have read that it is rented out from time to time.
I live a whole other side of the world away, but hope to someday visit this majestic spot. I hope the house is still standing by then.
Richard Gere and Diane Lane are awesome actors. |

Thanks for this. I saw the movie last night and thought that the house could not be a real place but rather another Hollywood fantasy place. Nice to know it does exist. Have you ever been to Middle Earth, perchance? |

I would LOVE to see this house! Some of my friends were talking about it today, wondering if this house was real or created just for the movie! I'm going to have to make a special trip one weekend to see it for myself! |
