Was Cornelius Saved Before Baptism?

Many people believe that Cornelius and his household were saved prior to baptism when the Holy Spirit fell upon them. Is there merit in that belief or have people simply been careless in their reading of the account?

Marc The problem that you have is you totally ignored the evidence that I have supplied demonstrating that these Gentiles were saved before they were water baptized.

Denny Smith If you are correct then you have a problem you must deal with. What? Peter, by the Holy Spirit, preached baptism for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38) in Jerusalem. What was it for here? Prove it. It cannot be done. Peter preached the same truths wherever he preached else we have one message in one location and another in another location, the very thing Paul condemns in Gal. 1. 11/1/2008
Marc Since the Gentiles in Acts 10 received the Holy Spirit before they were water baptized this proves that they were already saved before they were water baptized. Acts 11:17 informs us that they were "given" the Holy Spirit. According to 1 John 4:13 those who are saved have been "given" the Holy Spirit.
The example of Caiaphas prophesying took place before the Holy Spirit was given (John 7:39). Before Christ was glorified He came upon the saved and the unsaved but after His glorification having the Holy Spirit proved that one was a Christian.
