Vicki Bowman Oh, and Skowhegan also has the largest hand-carved wooden Indian statue in the US. It was put up in 1967. Skowhegan ( affectionately known around here as SkowVegas) also hosts the Margaret Chase Smith library on the back road to Norridgewock. Norridgewock means " place by the falls" and Skowhegan ( we are the ONLY town by that name in the world ! ) means " a place to watch", if my historical facts are correct. 9/29/2010
Vicki Bowman People from Maine also refer to themselves as Maineiacs ! Hopefully, you weren't refering to the toothpick factory in my hometown of Skowhegan, as that closed a few years back. Please cite your sources on statistics, it gives better credibility. All in All, it was a fun read. We even have several cruiselines that stop here now.
