Raydon Berry FYI Pierre-Joseph Redouté (to give him his proper name), was born in the village of St. Hubert in Belgium in 1759, worked for Queen Marie-Antoinette (guillotined in 1793), Empress Joséphine and Napoleon's second wife Marie-Louise, falling from grace for a few years before working for the last Queen of France, Queen Hortense de Beauharnais (google "apictureofroses" for a more complete history and a very interesting if not complete list of his works on roses). Your statements that a) roses in Europe were white and pink until the early nineteenth century and b) yellow roses were only introduced to Europe in the early twentieth century must be incorrect, since I have lithographs of Redouté roses which are from white through all shades or pink through red to a rich, deep nearly purple colour (Rosa Gallica (Purpuro-violacea magna), introduced to France before 1790), and at least 2 Yellow roses (Rosa Sulfurea - introduced to Europe prior 1625 and Rosa Eglanteria - introduced to Europe pre-16th century) - Checking with the site mentioned earlier actually gives 7 yellow roses painted by this incredible artist. 6/6/2009
Angel I have tried the method above but the only thing I did different was , use a rose plant that had a bloom which I cut from the top. The dried part os the plant spreads down to the new growth and kills the plant. I tried this on three occasions. 10/7/2008
