German animals given legal rights

Life may be about to change for the average German farmyard creature, zoo animal and household pet after the go-ahead was given yesterday to award animals rights in the constitution alongside those given to human beings.

Anne I believe animals should be given certain rights. It is cruel to abuse animals or do testing on them because we can. They have no choice over the lives we give them. Hopefully this legal right for them will change how people treat animals. 5/11/2006

ME This is another ridiculous attempt to pretend that animal life is equal or of even greater importance than human life, culture, and ideals. Animals lack intelligence, ability to reason, and, most importantly, a soul. They have no reason to be here except to live UNDER human beings. Their lives should not be protected or given rights at the expense of human tendencies. I am not saying that animals should be treated with undue cruelty, but please come to your senses and stop beings so insanly politically correct. 1/5/2005
