Supreme court bans execution of low-IQ convicts

Opponents of the death penalty in the US won a major victory yesterday when the supreme court ruled by six votes to three that it was unconstitutional to execute those with learning difficulties. The decision reversed a previous vote taken 13 years ago.

Ben Chadwick IQ is irrelevant, stupidity cannot be allowed to become a defence. People who kill and rape are a menace to society irrespective of how "clever" they are. If the punishment for a crime is execution, then that's what ANYONE who commits that crime should receive, that or life inprisonment, either keeps them away from us. 7/1/2006
Rachel I think that people with low IQ should be treated like everyone else and if they do a crime they must serve the penalties that a regular IQ person gets. 1/25/2005
