| Curtis | Our schools are lacking one of the most basic elements that should be in the classroom. This element should be a very important part of our school systems as well as a part of everyday life. Prayer in our schools is being attacked from every angle possible. People are saying that when they hear prayers in our school that it is infringing upon constitutional rights. My question is, infringing or not, why on earth would it ever be bad to hear a prayer being said asking for patience, guidance and love. In this world of turmoil and violence it is not enough to turn our children to their own devices and their own understanding of things; the world is too violent. Instead, prayer should be welcomed in our schools and our communities to make all of us better people and to allow our children to grow in an atmosphere of hope and love. President Clinton (1998) stated, "Schools do more than train children's minds. They also help to nurture their souls by reinforcing the values they learn at home and in their communities. I believe that one of the best ways we can help out schools to do this is by supporting students' rights to voluntarily practice their religious beliefs, including prayer in schools." It is time for us help the children in every way possible to learn, uphold, and live the values that they need to run this country. Let them pray. | 12/19/2010 |
| Pablo arias | all the schools have to pray and meet god | 12/8/2010 |
| DDC | Anyone who wants to pray should be allowed to in school, and it doesn't just have to be christians who pray. Any religion should be able to pray in school or wherever. It's the people's choice to pray or not. I would be one to pray if we could in school. | 12/2/2010 |

| school child | There are pros and cons to praying in school. There are different religions like Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, and many more but everyone does not believe in the same religion. The first Amendment to the constitution says "congress shall may no law respecting an establishment of religion." Praying has so many pros you couldn't count them. You can start your day by praying in the morning because it could be very beneficial by getting through the day because it is motivational. Banning religious activities such as praying can deprive students of Freedom of Religion. Praying teaches students respect for religious diversity. Even if you go to public school you can pray to yourself, like pledging to the flag saying "one nation under god." God wants people to talk about him. Students and teacher praying would not hurt the school. Students will grow up with an understanding of the Bible. It encourages spiritual practice and values. School is for learning not for praying. Everyone may not believe in the same religion some people don’t feel the need to include praying in school activities. The people who disagree with praying in school are eating up time of the children learning session. Praying might be an early introduction to the idea of religion for the students. It would not be necessary to teach students religious activities such as praying in a public school because the school does not depend on religion. Praying should not take place in school because there will be no reason to attend church some parents may not want their children to pray in school because they might not believe in a god. I think students have the right to pray because no one can’t tell you where when and how to pray. I personally think students should take one-two minute a day to sit and pray quietly. My opinion on the differences between catholic and public school is that catholic schools practice religious activities such as praying and bible study. I don’t think that praying is taking up time because can fit praying in your everyday schedule. |

| Oriaxel | I'm not a big fan of prayer in public schools... But I do see both sides to this. Prayer in SCHOOLS should be allowed, by all means! My school now has a "Youth Group" for those who want to freely express their beliefs of all sorts, even those who aren't sure about religion go to see what it's all about. But prayer in class, setting aside five to ten minutes to pray would eat up time I could use for other things. I've been in a class with a very religious teacher before, and she did set aside the time that I used for a short study period. It should really be up to the teachers and students on a day-to-day basis whether prayer comes into the classroom or not. If not? A group could be formed in the school for prayer and other religious activities. I'm sure a principal wouldn't object... If they do, then it can become a school matter to be discussed with students and faculty. | 10/25/2010 |

| tigereyes | I am doing a research paper on religion in Public schools and after careful research I have concluded that religion in in schools is necessary. It was religion that gave birth to the English colonies in America. The lack of knowledge about religion could handicap our students. The gap in education will result in a lack of realistic views of the world and they will not be prepared to study current events that require an understanding of the quarrels between various religious groups. Without studing religion, how can a student understand such topics as the Crusades; religious persecution; the formation of India and Pakistan; and the election of John F. Kennedy, america's first catholic president, or more current controversies such as 9/11; the Israeli-Palestinian disput, and the positions of the christian right on abortion, gay rights, and stem cell research. We cannot teach history without teaching about religion any more than we could prepare beer without using yeast. | 3/18/2010 |
| amber | i think there should be prayers in school maybe when the kids get older they they will not do bad thing if we do that. | 3/8/2010 |
| God's Child | Yes, there are many different religions, but one of the Ten Commandments is "thou shalt have no other GOD before ME" SO go ahead worship like you want but at the end of time and we all have to stand before the only creator of Heaven and Earth then the debate will not be open, only the judgement and the out come for non believers will be eternal hell with no chance of getting it right. And God is so good and merciful that no one will ever top that regardless of who you chose to worship. Thank God. | 3/1/2010 |
| raer | why should MOST people be Christians? there are many religions out there with that set morals and encourage people to act in what you would call a "godly" way...who is to say that Christianity is the only way to go? that is the problem in this world...everyone has a one-track closed mind. do some research there are many religions to explore. | 2/28/2010 |
| zaria | i think that there should be religion because it would be better for most people to be christians and not do things ungodly even though we do things that god doesnt approve of we always ask for forgiveness and just learn from our mistakes. | 2/22/2010 |
| Miss Anonymous | School is a place for education which is "public and local" not a place to apply your religious beliefs ...So think about it but its not because Im against God but its because we have different beliefs... | 1/25/2010 |
| ana | I think it should be allow | 11/12/2009 |
