Mica Some of the words used here are misleading. For example: "1937: Unfortunately, Maya was sexually abused. Her mother’s boyfriend, Mr. Freeman raped her. Maya was highly shocked and she became dumb. Both the children were sent back to their grandmother once again." This is misleading because she didn't become dumb. She became mute for 5 years and more rebellious. 2/16/2011
