udit Gaboon viper is also dengereous but it cant be in the list cause sometimes its give false bite. But surely its has the longest fangs. And king cobra is not the venemous snake cause it doesnt have the deadliest venom. But when it bite it gives the largest propotion of venom other than any snake. Thats why it is known as king cobra 1/9/2011
Udit But what about the black mamba. Great zoologist like Steve Irwin , Jeff corwin fears to handle it 1/9/2011

Alyn. Just a correction to your blurb on the Australian Common Brown snake Pseudonaja textilis. It is not related to the misnamed 'King Brown' commonly called the Mulga snake Pseudechis australis. As you maybe aware there are five tiger snakes in Australia with the Eastern tiger Notechis scutatus scutatus that can give birth up to 80 live young. The Southern death adder Ancanthophis antarticus is found in the north western corner of Victoria. 4/17/2010

Melanie i think that king cobras are very dangerous! :( 1/7/2010
Who Cares The most "Venomous" (not poisonous, get it right) snake is probably the Inland Taipan according to it's LD50 score, a shy and reclusive snake that rarely comes in to contact with humans and has possibly been responsible for less than 5 fatalities over the last 30 years.
The "Deadliest" snake would surely be the one that caused the most deaths in humans i.e. the Saw Scaled Viper or the Russel's Viper which are responsible for upwards of 50,000 deaths per year between them.
Maybe I'm being pedantic but the article should be renamed "The Top 10 Venomous Snakes" - less sensationalism more educationalism.

Luis G Very interesting...but I can't belive that the Black Mamba wasn't one of the 10 deadliest snakes.I always thougt the Black Mamba was the deadiest snake in the world.I Thougt it would be number 1.

Michael mcGrath The Common Brown Snake and King Brown Snake are different species. The King Brown Snake is actually a type of Black snake 9/10/2009
Chris The 2nd one is suppose to be an Eastern Brown Snake and I can't be bothered to correct the other wrong ones just yet...

cindy mike

have you ever thought that just because more peopl in sri lanka die doesnt mean that the snakes are more toxic, but maybe they dont have as good as health care and anti venorm?

aussies have a healthy respect for snakes... most of us stay the f away when we see a snake as the majority are highly poisonous.

we just found a snake in our back yard, fortunately its a dimond python and perfectally safe... but we found out first before going near it.

i didnt even know australia had non poisionous snakes.

tanmay the best snakes ever seen 2/10/2009
Mike How many deaths have been recorded from Inland Taipan bites? Tell me it's somewhere above the Sri Lankan snakes and I'll believe they are the dealiest snake. Otherwise this list is BS. The LD50 test is on rats not humans and has little bearing on humans 8/28/2008
