RA KA The first African American woman to host a nationally syndicated talk television show was Ms. Alice Travis (For You Black Women 1977). Then on the same series Ms. Nell Bassett hosted in1979.
Then Ms. Freda Payne, from 1980 to 1984, hosted the series when the series changed its name to Today’s Black Women.
Oprah went on the air with her show in 1985.
