Boykin Fan That is no Boykin... it's definitely a Cocker. And here's hoping the AKC passes the Boykin by. They're fantastic little brown dogs who do not need the national breeding attention and fouling up the AKC would inevitably bring. 6/29/2009

JRB That picture is of a COCKER Spaniel - not a Boykin! A Boykin is a different color. (dark/chocolate brown - NOT golden like the picture). Furthermore, the BSS was founded to become the AKC parent club and have the breed become an AKC recognized breed. The BSS was twice told that their records were not ready for AKC recognition which was over the span of several years. On the third time (and by that time a new board, officers and expanded membership) it was decided that they would not become AKC but remain independently operated. You can contact the BSS directly for confirmation that they have attempted AKC recognition for their organization at the beginnings of their development. It was only after they gave up the pursuit that the BSCBAA was formed. The breed is now in the AKC Misc. group and is poised to become a fully recognized breed in the AKC in January 2010. 6/28/2008
