BriBri I think it is rediculous that anyone can purchase guns without a backround check, no questions asked. This is not the 1700 anymore we do not rely on guns so there is no reason to have them stored in our homes. ppppppp Issuing and renewing certificates has become very slack. Police are not looking at someone and asking "Why should I grant a certificate?" but seem to operate on the basis of "Why shouldn’t I give the certificate?".

We need to look at the behaviour of applicants. There should be much closer involvement of the medical profession before a certificate is issued. There should be more attention paid to their mental health and home circumstances to see if there has been any domestic violence. Their spouses or ex-partners should be consulted.		 3/8/2011

Carl I am a strong believer in the right to bear arms. However, I am not so sure that all the hoopla made by gun owners is all they make it out to be. For example, most of the people I hear screaming about the looming gun laws make the argument that our right to bear arms is what stands between our freedom and the threat of tyranny. I agree to a point. Where I question this argument is on the issue of an armed confrontation with the Military or the Police. I cannot envision any one of my neighbors coming to my aide if they witnessed me being drug out of my home as I tried to resist Government agents from confiscating my weapons, if I owned one.
If there was some evidence of a well armed and a well organized, Civilian militia, to give some credence to the armed resistance of the threat of tyranny, then I might buy into the argument. Even though I believe in the right to bear arms, I just have not heard any argument against more gun control that makes me believe that fewer guns is a bad thing.

Another argument that I find a little weak that is used by gun advocates such as myself is that Guns do not kill people, people kill people. There is a flaw in that argument. Think of it this way; when you look at the number of people killed in school shootings, ask yourself if the assailant could have killed as many victims if the assailant were using a knife or some other less effective weapon? In any of the killings where multiple people were shot, could the assailant have succeeded at killing the number of people if the assailant were not using a gun?
These arguments are weak because the logic seems a bit flawed to me.
I do not think it is persuading to make the comparison that there are more people killed in automobile accidents to people killed by guns as the bases for your argument against more gun control.

This does not mean that I cannot be convinced. It just means that I need to hear a better argument.		 7/6/2009
