There are a few dog health problems that are exclusive to beagles while others are common to many breeds but very prevalent among beagles. kristy It is not true that beagles do not like to run for hours. They were bred to run for days through fields and brush for hunters to flush out prey.

They love to run and obesity is only a common problem because humans overfeed them. If you give your beagle the proper amount of exercise and DO NOT OVERFEED it than it will not be obese. It's not genetic or "normal" for beagles to be overweight that is entirely a burden we have put on the dogs ourselves.
You state that beagles are commonly obese as if it is a trait of the breed and not solely the fault of the owner. Your statement only exasperates the problem of people feeling it is ok for their beagles to be overweight.
Do a little more research and know what you are talking about before you advise others. I was truly appalled by that statement and made the rest of your article redundant after such a blatant fallacy.		 7/29/2009
Tita My beagle has terrible allergies. He is even allergic to rice, fish, shell fish, yeast etc... He is constantly shedding. A lot ! Every day all year round and his skin sometimes gets irritated and red and itchy. We have tried with the vet eveything. Right now he is taking Atarax, special shampoos etc. His sheddind never stops. Do you have any suggestions? I am willing to cook for him but what can I use to substitute the rice? Thanks, Tita Perez, San Juan, PR 7/15/2009
Yvonne my female beagle urinates a lot in the evening and she is extremely thirsty especially at evening time. I have been feeding her the best dog food and still no change .Could she be stressed out because we are not at home ? 5/26/2009
