Whatever Became of Jesus?

The four gospels in the New Testament devote many pages to Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. But there is virtually no coverage of what became of him after that. Perhaps there are reasons....

rhys It seems to me that unless something very remarkable happened, you have a very major problem in explaining the huge growth of the Church. Imagine, as a parallel, that Lenin had been shot by a czarist agent when he arrived at the Finland Station - would there have been a successful Russian Revolution? Many bolsheviks would have scattered, and the remaining leadership would have muffed it, as they nearly did anyway. And Lenin, after all, made no such claims as were made for Jesus. The Church, on the other hand, conquered Rome, and much more lastingly than the Bolsheviks took over in Russia. I can't see how you could possibly explain the psychology of apostles who made it all up or had delusions knowing they ran the risk of a painful death. That seems very unbelievable to me. 3/7/2008
