Tom Dunkerton On the whole Rat Snakes are NOT ill tempered, but some exhibit individual inclinations to defend or flee when approached. I've NEVER been bitten by a Yellow Rat or Black Rat Snakes and have onlt been bitten twice by a Red Rat Snake out of a great many that I've handled. Just my opinion. 3/28/2009
