Katie Response to Leah about teeth: the trick is to *only eat when you experience true hunger*, roughly twice a day. Allow the saliva in your mouth to be alone in there long enough, don't keep your teeth constantly coated with food. Even sugar companies have proved that it is frequency of eating which damages teeth, more so than what you eat. Eating other things to satisfy needs - of course, if you are interested in transitioning to fruitarianism. Becoming more and more pure in the path is the ultimate goal with the ultimate reward, but may be some years away. It took me a few years to really get down to it. With a mostly fruit foundation the effects of cooked foods become more and more obvious, or they did to me, and its that awareness that caused me to de-select each item one by one over time. Sorry for long reply, but each fruit eater shares their experiences so that others can have more information in a world where its all theory about this rare path. Rare, but extremely satisfying, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. If you can get hold of Essie Honiball's books they are a great help. The one 'I live on fruit' is full of letters of many people's experiences living on fruit, which blows away all the questions and disbelief. A lot of very normal people have walked this path for decades and life times, to their greatest good. The greatest challenge is that of *other people* who will criticism, disdain, tempt, become angry, pressurize one way or another. Its hard but it teaches compassion and humility. Never become holier than thou ... about anything. Good luck! 4/19/2010
Katie Beaver It is true that there is a special kind of bliss associated with pure fruit eating, which falls away quite quickly with every step away from the path, but returns when walking the fine line. It is true, too, that there is significant weight loss, and if the person is following fruitarianism with a desire to transform then coming down and plateauing at one's bottom most safe weight will cause an utter transformation as everything unnecessary and old falls away. Be prepared for some strong realisations about your situation, internal and environmental. I believe the weight picks up naturally after some months. At present I am at my bottom most weight, while not unhealthy in the least and feeling wiry and strong (when losing so much weight its necessary to suddenly start doing excersizes to get your tendons to tighten the body together where fat used to pad it out and support it), one of the hardest parts was the constant criticism from others about my weight. The harsher criticisms always came from more overweight people. People feel uncomfortable in the presence of people who carry nothing extra. They feel self conscious. The other part is the absence of food as a social binder, and it will take a mammoth effort to not become a recluse. The pressure to step off the path is immense. When at the bottom most weight one experiences the effect of breath as an instant energiser and mood lifter, and of course on fruit alone the sinuses are completely open and clear, no mouth breathing required. The other noticeable thing is how one adores to be in sunlight, a strange kind of energy in itself. Good luck to anyone who aspires to this path, there are probably no other diet methods of spirituality quite like it, in its demands and rewards. Its a high calling and strong discipline, to conquer one's appetites. You will learn a lot about yourself. P.S. Nuts are seeds, and seeds are unavoidable in fruit, they are part of it! So go ahead and eat nuts and seeds, nature has provided them for us. 4/19/2010
