just a few comments, well to beging with koi breeding is not jsut a hobby there are manyprofessional koi breeders in the world, oranmental grade are usually sold to watergarden centers and this grade of fish can vary in price, the show grade as you called them are not of show quality, these fish are usually sold in watergarden centers also and sell for higher prices, fish that are for show, are not graded for the mass market these fish are usually sold to another breeder, or for the utmost koi collector, these fish can be a rare sight to the public, except for koi shows, also cats typically will not jump in a pond and try to catch a koi, they can flip out babies if they are kept in shallow ponds, but cats cannot catch a large fish, because of the resistance of the water against their paws, try it for yourself you cannot catch a large koi with yuor bare hands, the number one preditor to koi is a great blue heron, or the smaller green herons, kingfishers, owls, the oldest recorded koi in history was a female who has been dead for quite a while now, their average age is usually 35-50 while some will get older, I know these fish I raise and sell them at a watergarden center, Koi breeding is a state of the art business, good breeders spend thousands of dollars for good breeding fish, and take great care in careful and healthly breeding facalities, there are fish mills taht turn out junk fish, these breeders only care about quanlity and not quality, our favorite breeder spent $250,000.00 for 2 females and one male Koi to enhance his breeding program and business, so this is not a hobby, but a business just like raising and breeding good dogs and horses. |
