NINA I ALSO JUST STARTED WITH HOARSENESS AGAIN LAST TIME I EXPERIENCED IT WAS ABOUT 1YR AGO I HAD SURGERY AND WAS DX WITH "GERD" NOW GOING THRU SIMILAR SYMPTOMS I CANT BELIEVE THIS. HONESTLY I THOUGHT I WAS GETTING A COLD SINCE, THE WEATHER HAS BEEN CHANGING DRAMATICALLY HERE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA , BUT I HAD NO FEVER ETC...SIMILAR TO LAST TIMES DX.. I SAW MY GENERAL DOCTOR SHE SAID TO CONT...W OMEPRAZOLE MEDICATION I BEEN TAKING SINCE LAST DIAGNOSED. SHE DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING AKWARD MY NEXT STEP IS TO SEE MY SURGEON ENT THAT DID THE SURGERY HE DID WARN ME TO WATCH WHAT I'M EATING AND I REALLY HAVEN'T BEEN SAME AS THE MEDICATION I WILL WRITE BACK TO WHAT MY SURGEON SAYS . 10/24/2010

Janet David My Acid Reflux started when I had to take blood pressure medication. I've gained weight from it and the acid reflux started to get worse. Now I find out that my depression medication can make it worse. Also from this increased weight I will probably get diabetes since I am borderline now and keeping my weight down has helped. Bill Brink Gastric reflux should not be treated lightly. It has the potential of devastating consequences. In time, the powerful stomach acids can irritate and then erode the esophagus, resulting in a condition known as Barrett's Esophagus. If it is permitted to continue its erosion, it can lead to Esophageal Cancer---one of the deadliest forms of cancer, and one that is increasing at an alarming rate. The best remedy for gastric reflux and GERD seems to be Nexium. If it is persistant, surgery at the base of the esophagus may be required, and the benefits are often excellent. 5/20/2010
