Shar Pei: A Chinese Gift

The Shar Pei is originally from China where it was used as a dog-fighter. This dog is not very friendly, so it may take time to mix with new people. It is overall healthy but may develop different health complications in time. Breeding of Shar Pei demands a good consideration over the personality traits of the dogs.

Roberto Melissa, do you have a recommended treatment for sharpei fever? My dog seems to have it and the current treatment seem useless (antibiotics, clavinex, colchacin). He is in pain and lost his apetite.
Thanks

KC I strongly disagree with two of the issues dicussed in this piece! My husband and I are first time dog owners, following a lot of research we decided to get a shar pei, George.
He is 5 months and we have no problems with his personality, he is a very sociable dog, which is just as well because we are always stopped in the street and fussed, he copes very well with starngers coming into his home too!
George is currently completing the kennel club bronze obeidence course having completed the puppy class, he is actually a quick learner and enjoys the training a lot. I agree that Shar pei's can be stubborn but are much easier than this piece leads you to believe.
