Linda Tremonti My 11 month old grandson was diagnosed yesterday at Kaiser's ER with a spot of pneumonia on his lungs. My daughter and her husband have been taking the baby to the doctor back & forth, and became more concerned after the first visit, because the baby's wheezing didn't stop. On the first visit, they were given a nebulizer to take home, and use for the baby. For the first couple of weeks, the baby seemed to be getting better, but last night, they took the baby back to ER, who did an x-ray and found a spot on his lungs. This time, the doctors sent him home with a prescription "Azithromycim" and also "Abiturol" to use with the nebulizer, and stipulated he should stay in for 5 straight days. Both my daughter and her husband have recently started new jobs, and both have taken turns taking off from work to be home with their baby. A parent of one the few children at the Daycare where my grandson is cared for during the work-week, dropped her child off there who was sick with the croup, and this caused even the daycare mother to become ill.
Can pneumonia in an 11th month old become serious, and how long does it last? Why aren't babies who are diagnosed with even a small amount of pneumonia be admitted into a hospital, where facilities and treatment can best be administered?
