George Fee	Plastic bags are able to be made biodegradable and converted to water and CO2 in a year or so instead of persisting in the environment for centuries by the use of oxo-biodegradable additives into the plastic during manufacture. The UK company Symphony Environmental and the Swiss company Adiflex both produce these oxo-biodegradable additives. Recycling of plastic bags is not feasible due to their light weight, so landfill and biodegradation is the only solution. In south Africa a company was even set up by the government to recycle plastic shopping bags but it failed completely. Another point is that plastic does not use up valuble oil resources as plastic is made only from the waste 4% of oil production that is not converted to fuel.	8/9/2010

Corinna Ehlert	I work in a supermarket and at the moment have been given the task of trying to get our customers to go with green bags. I used ur site to collect true facts on the impacts of using plastic bags and what i read alarmed me. I've decided to do cards with these facts all over the shop and in my display. I may also print off a sheet if i'm allowed to on all the facts to put in the customers bags, hopefully this will make them more aware. It has also made me more aware, although i keep a bag in my handbag at all times, i do sometimes forget myself. I think we should be charging customers10c each for these plastic bags.	5/22/2010

Mahboob G	Man, by nature, is fond of easy-going life as far as his household matters are concerned. If he gets a polybags from the shopkeeper for even a petty purchase, why should he bother to carry a jute / cloth bag from home? Again, paper bags are far too less durable and efective in case of carrying things with watery surface. So, the shopkeepers feel it both easy, handy and much cheaper to use polybags. Many a time public awareness or motivation does not accomplish good things, at least in countries with a vast majority of poor and uneducated population. Therefore it becomes necessary to impose monetary punishment to get a good thing going. Let us all wake up and do everything with a view to getting rid of polybags. We have already seen the extinction of various species of animals, plants,etc. from this planet because of our sheer callousness towards our environment. mami	plastic bags have always been the problem. it's true that many animals die every year and in some countries there are so few animals we are force to stop using them to celebrate special events. Jess	What should be done? I think that recycling bins should be placed at major shopping outlets. I think that when customers go through the checkout a charge for their plastic bags should be charged. Then when customers return to do their shopping again if they return with the plastic bags they have been charged for and place them into a recycling bin, they recieve the money they paid back. When customers do not return the bags, the money they paid can go toward funding recycling and awarness programs. Lets face it, we need plastic, and thats not about to change	6/2/2008
Deirdre	i'm never using plastic again. I saw an awful documentary on CBC news last night and it is devastating what is going on in Africa and India and many other places of the world. Even in our own cities, you can see it flying around everywhere and tossed on the ground and beaches. People in general are just oblivious! You can use paper mushroom bags for produce, I already use cloth for groceries. Hey, it's time to wake up here and smwll the plastic!	2/3/2008
